P2B have focused this week on learning about endangered animals, in particular African endangered animals including the causes of population decrease. The children have enjoyed designing posters to campaign to save some of these animals.

We have also began following the lives of the Whiskers family; a mob of meerkats with very hectic lives.

This week Primary 2B has been busy preparing window decorations for our Rainbow Girls who are walking in Saturday’s Procession. The students made each girl a sign displaying their names in rolled up tissue paper – these are now on the front windows of the school.

We have also been learning about the very important topic of endangered animals and now know a variety of vulnerable, endangered and extinct animals and why these animals’ population is decreasing.

The children also loved PE this week where they have been trying out some rugby with Mr Jeffries.

Primary 2’s assembly practise is going well and the children are enjoying their rehearsal times as you can see from our “best bits”. We are looking forward to the performance on May 10th.

We have been working hard on learning more about Africa this week and the class designed beautiful Ndebele tribal huts which are displayed on the classroom wall.

We have also been following the progress of a baby hippo named Fiona who lives in Cincinnati Zoo, the children were very excited to see Fiona starting to walk and learning to swim.

This week P2 began practising for their ‘Africa’ assembly; lines have been sent home to be practised. Songs include: Down In The Jungle, Tuwe Tuwe and Waka Waka. The children seem to be enjoying the assembly already!

Also as part of the new Africa topic, P2B made beautiful sunset safari silhouettes, which resulted in some messy hands and faces but lovely artwork for the wall.

In numeracy we have began a probability unit which the students are quickly picking up. We will continue to work on this next week.

This week we continued out new imaginative writing genre; mysteries. The children produced some great mystery stories.

Another busy week of learning in P2B. The class are enjoying our Castles topic and learning a lot. I hope the castle building is coming along nicely.

I was especially impressed this week during our writing / problem solving lesson where student’s had to write the ending to “Hassle at the Castle” a story in which the drawbridge of a castle was damaged in a storm. Children were to think of how to get the King and Queen safely across the moat. Some great ideas were shared and I was proud of the work written.

This week’s Big Star was Murray. Great job Murray, keep working hard.

This week Primary 2B have been learning about the cultural festival of Chinese New Year. The class seem very interested in this topic and are enjoying making colourful, new decorations whilst learning.

In addition the children have been learning about solids, liquids and gas in science.

Balbardie have redesigned our house shields and all houses met together yesterday for each winning shield to be unveiled.

In maths we began work on fractions and have been examining halves, quarters and thirds.

This week’s Big Star was Anna – well done Anna keep up the great effort.

A certificate was given to Murray at assembly for showing the school values.

Hannah was the winner of the P2 poetry competition and has been performing her poem “Nessie the Loch Ness Monster” outside of school at various events. Well done Hannah, I hope you enjoy the book you were given today at assembly.

P2B’s Week

This week has had a very Scottish influence what-with today being Burns Day. P2b learned about Robert Burns and Burns Day. The children enjoyed learning some Scottish dancing and Scottish songs such as “Cannie shove yer Grannie off the bus” and “The Jeely Piece Song”.

We enjoyed watching a brilliant assembly from P5 today which also had a Scottish theme.

This week primary 2b have continued learning their times tables with this week’s focus being the 3x table. We had some help from the Three Times Alien.

We had a special visit today from Badger the Mystical Mutt who even performed some of his magic.

I am very proud of how well the children did when reciting their Scottish poems, it was clear everyone had worked hard learning their lines.

P2B have also worked hard to create a lovely French colours display making colourful paint palettes and rainbows.

REMINDER: PLEASE REMEMBER CHRISTMAS JUMPERS ON 11TH, 12TH AND 13TH FOR THE NATIVITY DRESS REHEARSAL AND FINAL SHOWS

This week has been a very special week for Primary 2B. Not only did we have a fantastic time at the Destination Judo session, we have also been working very hard on our nativity songs to be ready for next week. The most special event of the week however occurred on Thursday morning with the arrival of Ernie, the naughtiest elf in the North Pole. He has been sent from Santa Claus to learn from our wonderful class how to be better behaved because at night time he gets up to all sorts of mischief!

This week also saw the introduction of 3D shapes and multiplication through sets in numeracy. The children have taken to this quickly and are doing well. Next week we will begin solving multiplication problems through using the array method.
