Some news for P3a…

This week has been a bright, sunny week in P3a, here are some of the things we got up to…

In our topic about farming and healthy living we have been learning about Fairtrade.  We have learned that we get a lot of our food and drink products from different countries around the world.  If we buy products with the Fairtrade logo on them that means that the farmers who produce cocoa beans for example, will receive a guaranteed profit that helps them provide for their families.

Have a look at what you put in your shopping basket to see if its Fairtrade!

Literacy

In grammar, we have been learning about onomatopoeia and how this can make our writing more interesting.  We use onomatopoeia in writing to describe sounds for example, Moo, click, boom, crash and bang!

We wrote an imaginary story about farming when chose to be an animal.

We learned how to infer from pictures- this means information that we can gather from things we see.  For example, if we looked in someones bin, we could learn a lot about what they like to eat, who lives there and if they have any animals or babies.

Maths

We have been learning where fractions lie on a number line and we have also been measuring weight and capacity.

We were very lucky in maths this week as Mrs Hay came to see our learning.  We finished division and we started fractions.  We have been learning about wholes, halves and quarters.

LAC

In topic this week we planted some seeds and learned about how plants grow.  We made predictions on how some plants grow depending on whether they have enough water and light etc.

We were very lucky to have Lucas’s brother Dylan in helping us and we think he really enjoyed himself and even tried singing our celebrating success song!

Literacy

In writing, we planned and wrote an imaginary story about a magic box.  We had lots of different ideas on what happened when we opened the box and we can’t wait to finish this next week!

P3A

We have had a great week of learning in P3a from introducing our Celebrating Success song to working out division sums outside for maths…

Maths

This week we have been revising our division and moving onto trickier calculations.  We had time to really put our strategies into practice by participating in an game where Mrs Palmer shouted out an answer and we had to work out what is was divided from and run to the correct side of the playground.  We then followed this up by making our own sums up and drawing them out on the playground using chalk!

We have also been using a range of measuring instruments to measure length and height.  We found this quite hard as we had to revisit what we learned in estimation and use the same skills to estimate and then check our answer by using our measuring instrument.

We have also started our new topic all about Farming and have already identified the difference between Arable and Livestock farming.  We used our knowledge of rhyming to also create a poem about farming!

In maths the pentagons and pyramids were working on their 8 times tables and we were using strategies such as drawing an ‘array’ and using ‘repeated addition’ to work the answer out.

The spheres were working on the 4 times table and testing their problem solving skills with a range of questions.
