Primary 2/1 Blog – Week Beginning 16.4.18

We have had an absolutely amazing week, full of lots of learning adventures!!

Here have been the best bits this week!

Literacy

  • Writing a story about a dinosaur that came for tea.  We had to think about what kind of dinosaur had arrives because that changed what we would give them to eat.  The P2s even explored using ellipsis, character speech and onomatopoeia!
  • Active spelling using the slime trays…it was a very messy job but we had lots of fun.
  • Sharing a whole class novel during milk and story time.  We are reading ‘The Dinosaur Detectives’ which is all about Matt who can see dinosaurs when he touches a fossilised egg.

Maths

  • Practising dividing and getting better at understanding the process.  We have explored using concrete materials and pictures to divide as well as challenging ourselves to use skip counting to work out how many groups a number divides into.
  • We played around the world this week…the spacemen won this time but Mrs Mansfield is trying to get some more aliens in her team next time!

Learning across the Curriculum

  • Getting to touch and learn about dinosaur poo.  We learned that people have found out about what the dinosaurs ate from looking at their poo (yuck!)  We were each given a dinosaur and had to look to see if our dinosaur was a carnivore, a herbivore or an omnivore. It was disgusting but lots of fun!
  • Our dinosaur lesson with Mrs Mansfield.  We explored moving like dinosaurs and also learned new dinosaur songs in music time.  It was lots of fun and we learned a lot.
  • In role play we added dinosaur characters.  This let us explore different situations with dinosaurs which was fun
  • At messy area we made dinosaur headbands.  This helped us practice our fine motor and design skills.
  • At imagination station there are the bones of dinosaurs and paper booklets.  We have got to pick what we are going to use the booklets for.  Some of us created a diary as though we were a dinosaur explorer, some of us created stories about what had happened to the dinosaurs and some of us created posters about our favourite dinosaur.

Next week is a wee bit different because Mrs Mansfield is away in Oban with the Primary 7s.  We are very lucky that Ms Davidson and Mrs Keene are going to be taking our class, there will be lots more learning adventures and Mrs Mansfield can’t wait to hear about all our new learning!
