Firstly, thank you to all who came to our Victorian Afternoon Tea – Morning! The children had a great time sharing their learning and eating scones! They performed the Victorian Work song brilliantly. Well done everyone in P5m!
This week P5m visited New Lanark to learn even more about the Victorian Period. Everyone had a great time and thought it was lots of fun!
The Annie McLeod ride was definitely the favourite activity and the scariest!!
The ride was about a girl named Annie. It told you about her life and she was born in Lanark. – Scott
The last part of the ride when it stopped was freaky! – Josh
Here are some things that the children learned at New Lanark:
I learned that there was a girl named Annie McLeod who was 10 and worked in the cotton mills. – Emma C
I enjoyed learning about Annie McLeod on the ride. After she said, “Do you believe in ghosts?” our ride stopped!! – Abby
The Victorian Classroom was so cool – we got to put on tunics. – Ava
I learned the whole of New Lanark was powered by water (the River Clyde). – Cameron
I learned cotton was made in the mill. – Travis
I learned that the River Clyde water wheel was powered by hand. – Drew
I learned that Robert Owen married David Dale’s daughter. – Nadia
Eve enjoyed seeing the cotton mill twisting the cotton.
Charlie learned that all energy was created from water and that Annie McLeod was born in New Lanark and that a lot of poor and working children had to work in factories.
We have also been learning about Florence Nightingale and read her story.
Apologies I haven’t been able to upload the photographs from the open morning. They’ll be posted soon.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs McClafferty
Hello 5m,
Your visit to New Lanark last week sounds like a great experience – apart from the ghost on the Annie McLeod ride! It certainly seems to have helped you learn more about life in Victorian times and how good for you all to see and explore the mills and factories for yourselves.
I look forward to seeing some of your photos soon,
Mrs Spence
It sounds like you all had a great trip to New Lanark 🙂 You have certainly all had fun learning about the Victorians!
