Suggested activities to do at home:

(Most activities will require the support of an adult)

Inch and Grub:

      • Design a jumper for Inch and Grub, using natural materials if you can.
      • Read the story together and have a go at adding caveman expression when Inch and Grub are speaking to each other.
      • Build a tower using items in your house. Challenge someone in your house to see who can build the tallest tower.
      • Design an invention to help you in the house or in school.
      • Inch and Grub are best friends. Draw your best friend and write 3 things that make them a good friend.

Arlo: The lion who couldn’t sleep:

      • Arlo struggles to sleep. Can you draw 6 pictures that show 6 main parts of your daily routine?
      • Research more information about owls and lions . E.g. What do they eat? Where do they live?
      • Design a bed for Arlo using junk materials in your house.
      • Yoga can help people fall asleep. Have a go at some yoga by following the link: Cosmic Kids Yoga – YouTube
      • Have a go at drawing Arlo by following the instructions within this link. Videos – Catherine Rayner – Authors Live Catherine Rayner – BBC

My First Book of Woodland Animals

      • Use the book to help you record/talk about what animals you can see on a nature walk.
      • Discuss which animals might get eaten by other animals in the book. Have a go at making simple food chains for different animals.
      • Build a bug hotel, or plant native flowers to encourage insects to visit your garden.
      • Write a fact profile for an animal not included in the book. It could be an exotic animal, a pet, or an animal you might find in a local park or nature reserve.
