Call Scotland have linked in with the Scottish Book Trust and provided resources to support you sharing these books with your children.  You can also get digital versions of the books to read on computer or tablet.

Your Say – Return to School Survey

Thank you to everyone who filled in our recent survey about returning to school.  We had 21 replies from parents which has given us a good understanding of how you are all feeling about the return to school after lockdown.

How did you feel prior to your child returning to school?

Very Worried – 6                Worried – 7              Not Worried – 9

How do you feel now that schools have reopened?

Very Worried – 0                 Worried – 6               Not Worried – 15

It is reassuring to see that families are feeling less worried now children have returned to school and you are aware of the measures we are putting in place to keep children safe.

The 3 main things that parents said helped them during lockdown were:

The school website

Home learning activities

Contact with the school through telephone and e-mail

Is there anything more we can do now that we are in the recovery period to support you and your child?

From the survey results it is clear that you are looking for good communication to continue and for normality to resume as quickly as possible for your children.  We had a query if assemblies are happening.  They are happening virtually in each class and these have been going really well so far.  Our communication champions are giving us lots of ideas of what to do for our assemblies each week as well as choosing their favourite songs to listen to!

Please also be assured that although we are reducing our numbers of visitors into the school if your child requires urgent support for physio or OT they have been in school working with a limited number of children per day in order to keep everyone safe.  Speech and language therapy and other agencies are also continuing to liaise with staff and we are keeping in touch using video calls and telephone communication to ensure pupil needs are still being met.

If you have any questions specific to your child please let us know – we will be happy to answer any queries you may have.

New Signs Around the School.

Here are some of the signs the children will see when they return to school in August.  Some of our children might like to look at them and talk about them before they come back in August.

To help our children with only coming back to school for a few days a week we have made  a visual timetable for blended learning, including what days they will come to school and when they will stay at home.

Parental Involvement and Engagement – Update

It seems like a lifetime ago we asked you for your views around parental involvement and engagement.  I would like to give you an update on some of the things that came out of the questionnaire we sent out.  In total we received 14 returns so thank you to the families that completed this as it really does help us plan and respond to the needs of our school.

We asked you if you currently feel supported in engaging in your child’s life at school.  More than one person could reply to this per family so in total we had 15 people who responded yes to this.  Three people replied sometimes and we had no replies that said they did not feel supported.

Some comments relating to this:

“As it’s my child’s first year and has only been in a few months so not sure this is applicable but from what I have seen so far VP is open and inclusive for parents”.

“I feel supported in engaging out our child’s life at school because I am always kept up to date with my child’s diary at school.  There is always someone available at school if I need to ask any questions.”

We also asked do you currently feel supported in knowing how to support your child to be the best they can be at home?  14 replied to say yes and three replied to say sometimes.  There were zero responses for no.

Comments around this question were:

“Yes because she is turning out to be a great little girl.”

“I have a great support system at home from professionals to family members.”
