Transition

Arrangements are made by the school to transfer P7 children to the associated secondary school as determined by their home address. We will provide you with information about the school and organise events designed to let the P7 children visit their chosen secondary school to meet up with P7 children from other primaries, so that the transition period is as smooth as possible.

The Catholic secondary school associated to St Mary’s is:

While St Aidan’s is our associated secondary school by merit of denomination, pupils in our Primary 7 class may also, depending on their home address, transfer to several other secondary schools without the need for a Placing Request. They are:

Eligibility to transfer to any of these schools is determined by the child’s home address. However, there are times when parents wish their children to go to other schools. If you want your child to go to any secondary school not mentioned above, then you may make what is known as a placing request. If you live in South Lanarkshire and decide to submit a placing request, we are unable to reserve a place in your local school until a decision is made on the placing request. Please note if your placing request application is unsuccessful, and all places at your local school are filled, you will be offered a place at the next nearest appropriate South Lanarkshire School.

If an application for a placing request is made, then free school transport is not provided.

  • If you move out with your catchment primary school this can affect your right to transfer to the associated high school and a request to remain form must be completed. If you move out with your catchment primary, this may affect your right to transfer to the associated secondary school.
  • Please note the secondary school choice is determined by the pupil’s permanent home address and chosen denomination.
