Leaders Award Competition

⚙️ “If you were an engineer, what would you do?” – Leaders Award

Leaders Award – If you could be an engineer, what would you do?®

The “If you were an engineer, what would you do?” Leaders Award is a fantastic way to bring engineering into the classroom through a creative, real-world challenge.

Open to learners of all ages across Early Years, primary and secondary, the competition invites pupils to explore a key question:
👉 If you were an engineer, what problem would you solve?

Learners are encouraged to:

  • Interview a real engineer to gain insight and inspiration
  • Identify a real-world problem
  • Design a solution through an annotated illustration
  • Develop their ideas through persuasive writing, explaining their invention

This provides a highly engaging, interdisciplinary experience, combining engineering, creativity, literacy and problem-solving.

💡 Getting Started

The programme is easy to deliver in the classroom, with:

  • A pre-prepared PowerPoint to guide learning
  • Opportunities to arrange virtual or in-person sessions with engineers
  • Access to recordings of previous engineer talks
