“Food is just too good to waste.”
By Scott Boyd and Cameron Meikle
Hellmann’s have launched campaigns to encourage customers to be more resourceful and think about the products they are wasting and using to become more environmentally conscious.
One third of all food produced globally is lost or wasted which contributes to 10% of greenhouse gas emissions.
Hellmann’s is on a mission to inspire and enable people around the world to be more resourceful with their food and waste less.
The company have been encouraging people to “Turn ‘Nothing’ Into Something.”
They have been doing this by explaining to customers that 60% of all food waste happens at home and that the cause of this is life as it gets in the way and makes us think ‘I’ve got nothing to eat’.
They are trying to encourage people to be more resourceful with the products that they have at home by asking them to think if these ingredients can be turned into a meal with the brand’s mayonnaise. The company have also produced a series of recipes which are available on their website to show customers how easy it is to make a meal out of few ingredients which are probably lying in your fridge/cupboards. Hellman’s claim it is ”amazing what you can do with ‘the nothing left in your fridge and a little Hellmann’s jar.”
Not only does Hellmann’s have a focus on food waste but they are leading the way in terms of how they are sourcing the plastic used in their bottles and caps. They started out back in 2018 making their bottles 100% recyclable and in February 2021 they started to use P.E.T (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plastics to save around 14 million brand new plastic bottles used every year.
In the future, they plan on getting rid off plastic seals and to make sure 100% of all products produced by Hellman’s are using 100% recycled plastic. Currently, they are encouraging their customers to make sure to read their recycling labels recycle properly.
This shows that there are numerous ways in our everyday life that ultimately all help towards tackling climate change, it doesn’t matter how small it is, together, it all helps.
