We are always playing, building, exploring, creating, questioning, explaining…the list could go on, and on…through our play! Play is on our School Improvement Plan this year and P2 are enjoying a variety of play based experiences daily!
Our P1/2 Open Area has had a bit of a revamp. P2 love using this area to extend their play opportunities and are often supported by our Play Worker, Mrs. Gilbertson.
Michael Coutts from Dogs Against Drugs came to visit us with their new puppy – Echo! We loved getting to try on all of Michael’s kit and ask questions. Here is a little about what we thought:
“I loved the puppy, he was so cute!” – Murray
“The dogs help the police keep us safe.” – Clara
“I liked the jacket.” – Coinneach
“Echo lives with Michael and he goes to work with him too.” – Rhea
“How does the sand not melt?” “Why are their no penguins at the North Pole?” “Where is the hottest place on earth?” “Where is the coldest place on earth?”
Just some of the questions the children asked at the start of our term 2 topic – Hot and Cold Lands. We have already discovered the answers to some of these questions and so much more! We have researched hot and cold animals in a variety of different ways. Here we are doing some paired reading to find out facts about Chameleons.
We began the term with some fire festival fun and a little bit of learning about Vikings…
We loved the story of ‘Hiccup the Viking who was Seasick’ by Cressida Cowell. We retold the story using our own maps…
We prepared for our visit from the Scalloway Jarl and his squad. We voted on which design we should do. Trying out different techniques to achieve the flame effects was fun!
We are sure the next few weeks will be just as jam packed…
