Weeks 1-6 Round Up!

We are always playing, building, exploring, creating, questioning, explaining…the list could go on, and on…through our play!  Play is on our School Improvement Plan this year and P2 are enjoying a variety of play based experiences daily!

Our P1/2 Open Area has had a bit of a revamp.  P2 love using this area to extend their play opportunities and are often supported by our Play Worker, Mrs. Gilbertson.

Michael Coutts from Dogs Against Drugs came to visit us with their new puppy – Echo!  We loved getting to try on all of Michael’s kit and ask questions.  Here is a little about what we thought:

“I loved the puppy, he was so cute!” – Murray

“The dogs help the police keep us safe.” – Clara

“I liked the jacket.” – Coinneach

“Echo lives with Michael and he goes to work with him too.” – Rhea

“How does the sand not melt?”  “Why are their no penguins at the North Pole?”  “Where is the hottest place on earth?”  “Where is the coldest place on earth?”

Just some of the questions the children asked at the start of our term 2 topic – Hot and Cold Lands.  We have already discovered the answers to some of these questions and so much more!  We have researched hot and cold animals in a variety of different ways.  Here we are doing some paired reading to find out facts about Chameleons.

We began the term with some fire festival fun and a little bit of learning about Vikings…

We loved the story of ‘Hiccup the Viking who was Seasick’ by Cressida Cowell. We retold the story using our own maps…

We prepared for our visit from the Scalloway Jarl and his squad. We voted on which design we should do.  Trying out different techniques to achieve the flame effects was fun!

We are sure the next few weeks will be just as jam packed…

Primary 2 Term 1!

Hello and welcome to the primary 2 blog!

We have made a fantastic start to primary 2 and are really enjoying our new classroom!

Just like in primary 1, we use The Zones of Regulation to help talk about our feelings and emotions.  We made peg dolls to help with our daily check ins…

We enjoy playing and learning through our play. We make full use of our classroom, the area outside our classroom and our outdoor spaces….

One of our term 1 maths topics was addition. We have been recording our learning journey in our classroom floor book! Here are some shots of us in action…

Our topic in term 1 was ‘The Senses’.  We enjoyed doing lots different experiments…

During a busy week, we really enjoy our Fun 31 time!  A chance to unwind and maybe try something new!

Term 2 October and November

Halloween!

We have had a very busy start to term 2!  Everyone came back to school after the holidays very excited about Halloween.  We really enjoyed reading Meg and Mog books.  Pop in to the lower corridor to see our own Mog cats!

Bonfire Night!

We learned all about keeping safe on bonfire night and decided it was a message we needed to share!  We made posters then used the iMovie app on our class ipad to make a short video to share the important things we had learned…click on this link to watch it!

Bonfire Night Video

We made beautiful bonfire artwork!  Pop in to see it in the lower corridor!

Light and Dark!

As part of our work on light and dark we have been learning about the effect light and dark have on bulbs.  We planted Hyacinth bulbs, we hope they will be ready to take home for Christmas!
