Primary 5 travelled to Montfield yesterday to perform some Christmas carols and dances for residents. They did a fantastic job and the residents really enjoyed having them along.
We managed to get some videos of their performance, please click on the links below to have a look!
Merry Christmas 🙂
Primary 5 decided to focus on cooking for their leadership activity this term. With support from Alison Beattie, our Head Cook, Primary 5 participated in Cook & Share, Food For Life’s approach to cooking together to reduce waste, learn new skills and enjoy delicious food.

In Art P5 have been using Styrofoam to create a snowman block print. First we came up with an image of a snowman then transferred it onto the Styrofoam, pressing into it with a pencil to create an indent.
We then had a block which could be used to produce many prints and make Christmas cards. The class really enjoyed this project, learning about the process of rolling, inking and printing.
Here are the first prints they took from their block….
Our whole class are part of the new Cooking Club in school this term. Alison from the canteen has been helping us think about the food we can make in line with ‘Food for Life’ guidelines. We wrote letters to the local community champion based in Tesco, asking for their support, as we have no budget to buy ingredients. We haven’t heard back from them yet but are hopeful that they may be able to donate something in the future. In the meantime, the children decided to make healthy pizzas to share with their family. Alison said that we could use ingredients from the canteen so that our cooking activity could go ahead. We’ve had a busy day, preparing the ingredients in the morning and putting the pizzas together and cooking them this afternoon. Thank you Alison! We’ve had fun! We’ve used our creative, critical thinking and communication meta skills.
As part of our Earth and Space topic this term, the children worked together on a STEM activity to make rockets from recycled materials and launched them using milk bottles. Collaborative and creative meta skills were used. It was a lot of fun!
Miss McLean, student teacher in Primary 5 this term, organised ‘angles’ activities with the children. We looked for angles in the school environment. We used our collaborative and critical thinking meta skills.
We learned why Remembrance is important and created our own poppy art using our creative meta-skills. The art works, using oil pastels, are beautiful!
We are learning to explore core programming language concepts. We created our own sequence of code and downloaded that onto micro-bits and created flashing hearts. We used our curiosity and critical thinking meta skills. This was a popular activity and all the children succeeded in creating a code sequence. We shall be re-visiting micro-bits soon.
As part of our Living Things topic work in Term 1, we planned a visit to a local burn to look for living creatures. We enjoyed a ‘hock’ in the burn today. We found some creatures, including snails, caterpillars and tiny insects. We found an eel on the banks of the burn, but couldn’t revive it, sadly. We focused on our collaborating and curiosity meta skills. We had fun!
