Lewie’s Presentation

My presentation was all about social health and wellbeing. Social wellbeing means feeling happy that you belong somewhere and are included.

I feel happy that I belong to:

My Family

North Roe Primary School

North Roe

Northmavine

Shetland

Scotland

Planet Earth

I am active in all these places.

Dad, Mam, Thomas, Willum and me do lots of things together. We eat at the table together, play games, go outside, visit Granny Angus, visit Granny Teen, do things at the Pund. Seeing my relations makes me feel happy.

Pupil Council

We had a pupil council meeting on Friday to make some decisions about how to improve our school, school trips and fundraising. Vaila, our new Chair Person, did a fantastic job. Everyone got the chance to have their say and all the agenda items were discussed. Thank-you to our secretary Scott for typing up the minutes so well. 🙂

Yoga!

As part of our Health & Wellbeing topic we have been learning about physical and mental health. We have been doing yoga with Mrs Robertson, it is so much fun! Yoga is great because it enhances our physical flexibility, promotes physical strength, makes us use all of our muscles in new ways, it develops our focus and concentration AND it encourages us to clear our mind and focus on our effort. We’re getting better every week! 🙂

STEM challenge

Tallest Tower Challenge!

In our groups we had to design and build a tower that was over one meter high using newspaper. We had to use our design skills to construct the model, using a range of methods to join and strengthen newspaper. We also had to use our team work skills to be able to work successfully as part of a group. Our STEM ambassador Duane was there to give us helpful tips and advice. Both teams successfully completed the task in the time given.

Well done everyone! 🙂

Thumbs Up!

We have been using visual aids to help us learn about hundreds, tens and units. We have been adding and taking away hundreds, tens and units and trying to find the best mental maths strategy to get the answer.

My Special Box

We have been working hard on our personal pieces of writing ‘My Special Box’. We had to take in a box from home containing 3 things. The 3 things were to remind us of a:

  1. Special place
  2. Special person
  3. Special memory

In our pieces of writing we have been describing our special place, person and memory and what makes them so special to us.

Tessellation and M.C. Escher

We have been learning about M.C Escher in maths as part of our ‘shape, position and movement’ topic. M.C Escher became fascinated by mathematical designs and patterns. He did not do well at school but he was a very talented artist. He was inspired to produce his own tessellations. Tessellations are created when shapes are repeated again and again with no overlapping. We have been creating our own tessellations in maths.
