WWII air raid!

IMG_1333 IMG_1734

We have been learning about gas masks. We made boxes for our gas masks to go in, inside the lid we glued on the instructions gas masks came with in WWII.

Gas Masks during the war
Gas MaskBy September 1939 some 38 million gas masks had been given out, house to house, to families. They were never to be needed.

Everyone in Britain was given a gas mask in a cardboard box, to protect them from gas bombs, which could be dropped during air raids.

WWII Evacuees

IMG_1736 IMG_1737

We have been learning all about children being evacuated during WWII. Evacuation tried to ensure the safety of young children from the cities that were considered to be in danger of German bombing. We tried to imagine how evacuees must have felt having to leave their family. We’ve been pretending we’re evacuees in WWII so we’ve been busy making boxes for our next topic lesson on gas masks.

Aff at da creels

20160511_19101220160511_19090520160511_190848

We were very excited to see the pictures of Thomas’ catch from when he was off on his dads boat. When Thomas’ creel was hauled up he was delighted to see he had caught a lobster and velvet crabs. Thomas said he enjoyed eating the crab and lobster meat. Well done Thomas, hopefully you’ll have another lobster in your creel next time you go off 🙂

STAR writer! :)

IMG_1625

Scott is our new star writer. He wrote a fantastic imaginative story. In the story Scott was a superhero called Ginger Beard on an superhero adventure. He had to save the world from his enemy Patrick the starfish. He used his super powers, flying and super speed, to defeat Patrick. Scott used some super onomatopoeia words in his story – ‘pow’ ‘zoom’ ‘wham’ ‘puff’ and a few more! Well done Scott, you have a super imagination. 🙂

Patissier Mairianne

Mairianne’s topic this term is France so her topic homework was to research French Patisseries and choose a traditional French patisserie recipe to try. Mairianne found out that bakeries in France can only become a patisserie if they have a patissier – a licensed master pastry chef! To become a patissier you have to get a qualification which involves studying and working long hours developing and perfecting your baking skills. Mairianne decided to make French macarons. Here are some photos of Mairianne making the delicious chocolate macarons!
