Fizzy Rockets

We made fizzy rockets to explore Isaac Newton’s third law of motion. We made rocket fuel by mixing effervescent tablets (berocca) with warm water. This caused a chemical reaction releasing a gas, carbon dioxide, within the body of our rockets. The pressure from the gas then built up until there was enough force to push the lid down and the rocket up. We found that the longer it took for the gas to build up, the higher and faster the rockets flew.
