Visit to the New Hostel!

After performing in the 2018 Shetland School’s Music Festival, we went to visit the New Halls of Residence – aka. The Hostel.

First we had our lunch, and then Nick – the manager of the Hostel – took us for a tour! We saw the rec rooms (where the residents chill out), study (where they do any homework), music rooms (which have soundproof walls) and we even got a sneak peek in the bedrooms!

“I was SO happy that there’s double rooms so I can share with Abbie when I go to the hostel!” – Ruby

“My favourite part of the hostel was the gym!” – Evie

“I liked the gym and loved the games room!” – Hunter

“I liked that the rooms all had en-suites!” – Amanda

“Going to the hostel was really fun!” – Heidi

UP HELLY AA!

We all enjoyed Up Helly Aa weekend. On Friday 23rd February, Jarl Balder and his squad met us at the hall and we travelled back to school in the galley. The school filled with visitors and we had the chance to try on some of their outfits.

The squad stayed at school for their dinner and we had photos taken.

Thank you to all our visitors and to Jarl Balder and his Squad for making our day so exciting.

After watching the torchlight procession,we performed our school squad in the school and in the hall.

Macmillan Coffee morning

The pupil council have organised a coffee morning for Macmillan tomorrow, the 5th of October, from 10am to 11:15am. We would love to see as many people as possible to help us support such a worthy cause.

The younger children are busy learning about the charity and what they do in order to make posters to go up in the canteen whilst the pupil council decorate the canteen so we are all set for tomorrow morning.

We are all going to be baking tonight so there will be lots of lovely goodies for you to try. We hope to see you there!

Growth Mindset

We are learning about growth mindset in health and wellbeing this term. We have discussed the difference between growth mindset and fixed mindset.

Today primary 1-3 were colouring in their brains to show the difference between growth mindset and fixed mindset.

Primary 4-5 were deciding whether or not the statements they had were growth mindset or fixed mindset.

Primary 6 and 7 were looking at different words associated with growth mindset and write our own definition of the word – we also had to put them in alphabetical order.

Amy and Emalee come to visit

As we have been learning about living and growing in topic this term, Amy Witt came into school with her baby Emalee today to tell us what it is like to care for a baby. She showed us how to brush her teeth (all 2 of them), change her clothes and change her nappy. It was very interesting learning about everything you need to do and think about when you have a baby. Emalee was really good and a delight to have in school, she liked when Ollie played peek a boo with her. We all got a cuddle at then end too.

Thank you very much for coming in Amy and Emalee!

Thank you Mr Spence

As you are probably all aware we have been very lucky to have Mr Spence working with us for the last 5 weeks as part of his PDGE course. His focus was with second level but he has enjoyed being involved with the whole school. He has been involved in the planning and delivering of numeracy and literacy lessons as well as taking a lead role in teaching primary 4-7 about climate change. We have really enjoyed having him with us and can’t believe how fast these last 5 weeks have gone. We are sad to see him go. We wish him all the very best in his next teaching placement and in his future teaching career! Thank you very much for everything you have done Mr Spence!

Happy Up Helly Aa Day

From grand old Viking centuries Up-Helly-Aa has come,                   Then light the torch and form the march, and sound the rolling drum: And wake the mighty memories of heroes that are dumb;                  The waves are rolling on.

Hapy Up Helly Aa Day!!! We hope you are all as excited as we are today!

3 cheers for Up Helly Aa!!

Primary 7 fundraiser for CLAN

Me and the rest of the Primary 7s of Cullivoe primary school raised money for the clan cancer support group over the Christmas season. We had to decided on a wall display and the winner was a Christmas tree. We took time on creating the tree. The other members of the school and teachers paid 20p each to write a Christmas message in the shape of either a bauble or a Christmas present to someone rather then giving them all a Christmas card.

We raised £26.50 from the Christmas tree wall display so it was a big success! And to top that off our Christmas show kindly donated £273.50 so altogether we are putting £300 towards helping people surviving with cancer in the northern part of Scotland.
