Mardi Gras (Shrove Tuesday)
Today it is Mardi Gras (Shrove Tuesday), an important festival in France when we make crepes before we embark on lent. S2 had a little taste of this French tradition and made some great pancakes from scratch! They were delicious and disappeared very quickly
The Big Brae Bake-Off
During ‘sustainability week’, which took place from the 26th of May until the 29th May, the Modern Languages Department organised ‘The Big Brae bake-off’ competition. The challenge consisted of baking a French or German speciality at home, which also allowed students to write up their recipes and label ingredients in either French or German. It is clear that some of our pupils in S2 and S3 were delighted to take part in this competition where they also had the opportunity to include their families in the making and the tasting of their wonderful creations! All the participants have received a ‘digital’ certificate to celebrate and reward their efforts and have shown great resilience and enthusiasm in producing their culinary creations! This year, our winners are: for the German prize, Lilybell’s Franzbrotchen (German Cinnamon buns) and Layla with her ‘Bigorneaux au vin blanc Tik Tok clip’ (she collected periwinkles from a local beach, with her mum and cooked it in a garlic white wine sauce). Mrs D’Eathe, Mrs Wood and Mrs Wilkinson are very proud of everyone who has shared their amazing creative skills on this occasion! A special mention to Erin in S2 who shared with us two entries with her German Buchtelns and ‘French palmiers’, bravo!
