Scotland win

Mrs Leakey is  the instigator of the postcard project of which we are enjoying being part. Last year Magnie went to visit The Pirates of Room 4, Mrs. Leakey’s school in Invercargill, New Zealand which is one of the places where the World Cup matches are being played.

Mrs Leakey was lucky enough to go to the Scotland v Romania match and has sent us some photos of the game.

Lydia Monks

With Miss Anderson we are doing about different illustrators. One time we did Lydia Monks. We tried to used her technique. We did two big pictures. One group was Me, Lucy, Kay, Brydon and Charlotte. The other group was Leah, Melissa, Kerry, Honor and Bradley.  I did a survivor. The picture we did was a sinking ship. The other group did a farmyard. We looked at her website and it was very bright and it was animated.

Art, Quentin Blake.

In art we are doing different illustrators’ style so we did Quentin Blake one week. Quentin Blake illustrated some of Roald Dahl’s books. Miss Anderson showed us some pictures that he drew and we wrote down some of the features he put in every drawing of his. He draws his eyes as round circles with a dot in the middle of them, he draws slim bodies, Scribbly outlines, king of scruffy looking people and pointy looking noses. We practiced in our sketchbook, This is my sketchbook drawing: Kays Sketchbook quentin. When we finished drawing in our sketchbooks we had to draw our Family portrait using Quentin’s style. Lucys quentin art. We all did a really good job and I think that we should all be proud. Melissas quentin art. This is my Family and Cousins. My Quentin Artwork

Preparing for Skye

The P7s are going to Skye on a Crofting Connections trip. We are going on  Monday 3rd October. We are making an iMovie on the iPad to show what we’ve done about cereals. But we had no pictures on the iPad so we had to e mail from our laptops some pictures of cereals. It was hard to choose but we got there. Now we had some pictures on the ipad we drew up a story board to have some idea where the pictures go.

Crofting Connections is a project to help children learn about crofting and  keep crofting alive for longer.

Saving Energy in the Chapel

Dad invited the school down to the Chapel to come and see the underfloor heating because we are doing energy for our topic this term, we were learning about saving energy. We all looked and stood on the King Span (Insulation) which was on the floor like a big silver blanket but it isn’t that soft. The King Span was taped together with aluminium tape which was really shiny and silver to reflect the heat. Now at the Chapel there is a big metal grid with underfloor heating pipes cable tied to it, if you look at the under floor heating pipes from the stairs it looks a bit like spaghetti.

Preparing for Yell Show

On Friday we had some thoughts about what veg to enter into the Yell show. We decided to pull up Totties, carrots, lettuce and cauliflower. So we went out side and opened our tottie bags and the types were Shetland Blacks, Whichill and Sarpo Mira. Once all the totties were out we put them inside then we pulled up 2 Cauliflowers and 3 Lettuce’. Inside Jennifer trimmed the Lettuce and Cauliflower while we weighed the Totties. The small ones chose the 4 biggest ones of each sort. We had lots left over so we put them in bags of 8. We had to choose which lettuces to enter and which Cauliflowers to enter. We won 1st Cauliflower, 1st for lettuce, 2nd for Carrots and Totties.

I Walked To My Grandad’s

I walked to my grandad’s with my Dad and Leah and Neil on Sunday.  It was a sunny day on Sunday. Neil and Leah scared the sheep and the sheep ran away. Neil was being silly. I talked to Dad when we walked. Leah went on her wheel chair. Then we saw my grandad’s house.

The East Yell Show

I went to the East Yell Show on Saturday and the school entered in three different sorts of tatties and carrots, lettuce and cauliflower. We got a second for our carrots and a first for our lettuce. We also got a first for our cauliflower and a third for our early tatties.

There were a lot of ponies this year that were entered except I don’t know who won. There was four, small, white bunnies that were for sale. They were very cute.

There also was a stall about the wind farms that might be going up in Burravoe. It told you all about where they were maybe going to be placed and other information.
