This weekend is Cullivoe Up Helly Aa (fire festival); we were really pleased that the Jarl started his celebration with a visit to us. Everyone had great fun trying on the helmets and reindeer cloaks and wielding the axes! Thanks to Mia for some great filming. We’ll post some more pictures next week.

Jack Frost

Jack Frost

There was a man. He was a mysterious man, and no one knew who and what he was. He dropped the glistening key on the frozen ground and strolled happily and strangely away. There it sat miserably for years, decades, centuries and then one day a caring man in winter called Toby skipped along enthusiastically. He was all raped up warm with his winter jacket and woolly mittens. He stared at the ancient key and then straight away picked it up and put it in his cosy jacket pocket silently. Then he took the key home. His room was immaculate. It was like a huge lab in one room. He put the key quickly down on a padded table and then moved the key to a massive door with a lock. He put the key through it and it opened. Outside the door was to the man’s surprise it looked like a fairytale land with candy floss trees, chocolate paths and mint leaf grass which looked like frost. Then the man looked ferocious and he turned all white and his hair was all frosty, HE WAS JACK FROST.

I like your story; I think you have described the mysterious man. Is the mysterious man Jack Frost? Was the big door in his room? I think you have used the thesaurus very well and some of the words were quite amazing.

Charlotte

The Mysterious man is a different guy but what do you think? Thanks

The Key

One day I was walking slowly in the woods when I saw something glistening in the sunlight so I stumbled up to it trembling with fear because it was going to bring me bad luck, but it didn’t, instead a mysterious door appeared then I released where ever I went with key I just had to drop it on the grass and the magic door would appear and I could peer through. One night I decided to pack some things for my unbelievable journey then I tiptoed down the stairs being cautious not to wake my snoozing parents. When I got outside I dropped the key on the rocksoild ground  the door appeared yet again so I stepped inside  it was like a palace it had my name and pictures of me  all over the isolated walls  so I had a look around and then  it hit me I remembered mum  on the phone to someone talking about selling the house  this is  my home  aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh oh I’m  sorry  I’m just really excited sorry got to go.

I saw you had a mixture of past tense and present tense. I didn’t get the bad luck part so maybe you need to look that through again!

Apart from that your work is good and I can see you have been using the thesaurus and I like the word glistening. Try using more grammar. Fae Mia

Thanks Mia I fixed what you told me to fix, next time I will use more grammar in my work Thanks for commenting

Yorkshire Dales and the Mysterious Key

It was a cold day outside in the Yorkshire Dales. “Mum I am going to the park!” called Molly Sutherland. “Well if you are going to skate on the frozen pond then you must put your helmet and ice skates on!” Answered Mrs Sutherland. After Molly put her helmet and skates in an old Tesco’s bag she walking slowly through the door and entered the garden which was covered with glistening snow. When Molly was making her way through the snow she saw a key lying on her swing which swung slowly. She picked up the chestnut colored key which shone in the light. She skipped through the snow briskly. “Mum, Mum!” “Look what I found!”Shouted Molly.  “What an earth is it? her mother. As Molly walked briskly into kitchen and showed her mother the key which looked as clear as a new car. “What a lovely key, where on earth did you find it?” “In the garden!” exclaimed Molly. The key started to glow, and soon it was whirling around them. “Molly what have you done now!”…………….

Dream

The bare and grey trees suddenly look big to the little log house which sat on the snowy ground.  The mist makes you feel a chilly hand on your back you turn around and see , the Ice queen, she grabs you, takes you to her frosty  palace and she is about to lock you in a freezing cold room. Then you wake up in your bedroom and find out it is all a dream. You look out the window and see the snow has melted and you can see the lush green grass again but you can still hear the faint screams of pain and agony and you think of the Ice queen from your dream.

Janet and the Tree House

A little girl called Janet lived in a tiny house in the middle of the dark, lonely woods. The tiny house was a tree house with a red tiled roof. Janet lived with her auntie Amanda, her mother and father went away to a small island of the coast off Africa and couldn’t take Janet with them. When Janet woke up and looked out the window she saw a flock of geese flying strong over the tree tops.  Amanda came in to say that they would have to move to Africa where Janet’s mum and dad was living because the electricity bill had gone soaring up and she couldn’t afford it. They packed their belongings and got in the creaky wagon. The wagon was very dark so Janet could sleep in it. She grabbed her rag doll that her auntie made for her and went to sleep again.  When they got to the lazy sea they boarded a snug boat and they sailed off. After a 24 hour journey they got to the Africa. Africa was so hot that they had to put there t-shirts on! “I can’t wait to see mum and dad!” exclaimed Janet. “I have hardly seen them!” When they got to the huge house Janet’s parents stayed at, they unloaded the wagon and knocked on the creaky door. Nobody answered; they knocked again still nobody answered. “What are we meant to do now?” asked Janet. “I have no idea!” said Amanda. “We will just have to sleep in the wild!”

The Little Cottage Story Starter

The lonely little old lady in the small cottage heard a ringing of her door bell, so she went to the door to answer it. There was a surprise waiting for her when she opened the door there standing in front of her was a very fat man with a kind of red skin. She stood still as a statue. He went through the door and helped himself to a club chocolate biscuit. The old lady was very mad, one because he had gone with all her clubs and two his mucky boots had left a trail of mud and she didn’t like to clean as her back got awfully sore. He sat by the fire and the old lady was really mad by this point so she roared WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY LITTLE HOME! He gently said I am here to visit you, I am your son remember me, Jamie. Ohhhh I remember now! You’re late, like two years late. Ok…Ok mum. So how’s  things with your brothers? Oh ok except Ben is a bit ill at the moment.

Oh that’s not good. Ah I remember young Benjamin. There was a scream AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
