Career-Long Professional Learning for supply teachers begins with our first Supply Teachers Network meeting of the academic year on 24 September 2024 from 4.15-5:15pm.

All supply teachers are welcome to attend. It offers an opportunity to discuss CLPL needs for the future and offers a chance to engage with other supply teachers in the area. Network meetings will be held on a termly basis:

  • 14 November 2024 – theme STEM on Supply
  • 25 February 2025 – theme Child Protection Update
  • 21 April 2025

All sessions will be held online from 4:15pm to 5:15pm, joining instructions and the theme / agenda for the session will be sent out a couple of weeks prior to the meeting.

Induction dates will be arranged for new supply teachers and it is hoped that these sessions will run on a termly basis.

Other mandatory training requirements:

SBLearn – Professional Learning (glowscotland.org.uk)

Child Protection Induction (applies to NEW employees to SBC)

Exploring the SBCWay launchpad will allow you to navigate through anything you will need to know with regards to Learning, Teaching, Assessment  and Inclusion in the Scottish Borders.

All education staff also have access to Schoolhouse within GLOW which is hosted by the Inspire team. Schoolhouse offers a range of digital support, hints, tips and online Professional Learning sessions.

Inspire

All schools should now have 1:1  iPads  from P4 upwards which supply teachers can access when in school. You should be able to use a ‘shared ipad’  in school but should save any work into Glow, not  on the device itself. If you would like to further your knowledge on the Inspire programme, there are a number of Professional Learning sessions offered through Schoolhouse and the Apple Teacher Programme is also recommended.

Curricular Network

All Supply Teachers will be given log-in details which will allow access to the Curricular network in schools. A member of the school administrative team will be able to request this access for you.
