Essential for ALL Early Years Roles
SSSC Registration (if not already registered with another registered body – full list can be found on SSSC) Engagement with SBC Key Messages through EY Portal
Social service workers must meet their personal and professional responsibility for maintaining and developing their knowledge, skills and values – SSSC CPL Child Protection Induction & Annual Update
SBLearn Mandatory Modules Paediatric First Aid
Infection Control – TURAS NHS Module Trauma – TURAS NHS Module

Food hygiene (dependent on staff ratio – contact EarlyYearsED@scotborders.gov.uk for further information)

  

Support Worker

Must hold or be working towards:

  • NC Childhood Practice or SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF level 6

Early Years Practitioner

Must hold:

  • HNC Childhood Practice or
  • SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF level 7 (must include units relating to children’s learning and development)
  • NNEB/SNNEB with evidence of recent of up to date knowledge on current practice.

Additional leadership opportunities:

Early Years Officer

Must hold:

  • The Early Years Practitioner qualification listed above Plus one of the following:
  • PDA 8 Childhood Practice or
  • SVQ Social Services (Children & Young People) level 9 or
  • HND Childhood Practice or
  • Diploma in Childhood Practice

Additional leadership opportunities:

Senior Early Years Officer

Must hold:

  • The Early Years Practitioner qualification listed above Plus one of the following:
  • BA Childhood Practice (SCQF Level 9)
  • PDA level 9 Childhood Practice 

In addition to this a practice qualification is required: 

  • HNC Childhood Practice or
  • SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF level 7 (must include units relating to children’s learning and development)
  • NNEB/SNNEB with evidence of recent of up to date knowledge on current practice.

Must hold:

  • The Early Years Practitioner qualification listed above Plus one of the following:
  • BA Childhood Practice (SCQF Level 9)
