Nurture

At Girvan Primary School, we are able to offer an alternative classroom, known officially as the Nurture Fidelity Model. 6 learners who have been carefully identified attend this classroom for 4 mornings per week with Mr D Tait (Nurture Teacher) and Mrs R Shepherd (Pupil Support Assistant).

This trauma aware, attachment informed practice is relationship and language focused within a safe, empathetic base which is highly structured. At Girvan Primary School, our space is known as The Coorie Inn. As reliable adults, staff in The Coorie Inn provide predictable, consistent, structured routines for our children, as well as, respectful interactions and they have time to respond sensitively to a child’s individual needs. Nurture principles allow staff to balance supporting a child, help them keep safe and show them how to engage with the curriculum whilst also showing them that change is possible.

Children remain a valued member of their own class and attend The Coorie Inn for 4 morning per week. The children will agree on Personal Targets (linked to the areas of need identified in the Boxall Profile). Nurture staff work closely with Class Teachers to ensure smooth transitions and success of the intervention.
