Attendance for January
Our average attendance for January is as follows:
Fisherton Primary School 9 1.2%
Fisherton Early Years Centre 82.4%
Maximising Attendance
As part of our on going journey to school improvement, we are committed to ensuring that the attendance levels within our school and Early Years Centre are high and improving.
We have set ourselves the ambitious target that we would like our monthly average attendance for the school and EYC to be 95%.
Each month we will share our average monthly attendance on the blog and hopefully work together to reach our target!
Consultation on the South Ayrshire Children’s Service Plan
In South Ayrshire, we are keen to hear the views on what’s important for children and families to help us to develop South Ayrshire’s Children’s Service Plan. This will help support joint working to enable children in South Ayrshire to be safe, healthy, achieve, nurtured, active, respected, responsible and included.
Services have been working together to identify what they see as the main priorities to focus on and we would like parents and carers to have their say by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/CWNRQZ8
Please note the consultation will only take place between the 13th and 22nd February 2017.
To request the survey in another format contact the Council on 0300 123 0900
Career in Football Anyone?
We have been having many discussions about the different jobs we might like to try when we get older. Last week we learned that all jobs in the film and entertainment industry don’t necessarily mean you have to be the star of the big screen. This we week invited some guests from the world of sport. Liam Hamilton, from Street League, and Danielle Connolly of South Ayrshire’s Employability and Skills, came into school to talk to us about their jobs within the football world, and their jobs as people that help others’ find training and employment.
Danielle has had a career in women’s football. She played for Celtic, for a team in America, and now plays for Hamilton Accies. After she left we discussed the fact that females in football do not get paid the way male players do……interesting discussions!
Liam started his working life as a coach builder and later decided to train as a football coach. He went to Stirling University and now coaches youth teams. Liam currently coaches with Ayr United. His full-time job is with Street League, which involves supporting unemployed 16-24 year olds to move into sustained employment using the power of sport.
We interviewed them both and recorded the interview to make a podcast. The podcast is available to listen to from this blog. Click the video at the bottom of this post.
Here is what the pupils had to say about their visit…
I liked the fact they both like Lionel Messi.
I liked when we got to go out and play football in the fresh air.
I was nervous when I had to interview them.
I enjoyed listening to what they had to say in answer to our questions.
I thought some of their comments were funny.
I liked watching our own football team play.
I think it is good how they have moved teams and coached or played with different teams.

Maths Rotations – What’s going on this week??
We enjoy rotational maths activities as this allows us to explore maths concepts in several different ways. This week we are delving in to the world of fractions. Some of us are looking at equivalence while others’ are converting fractions to percentages and decimals. We play games with concrete materials and by following PowerPoint’s that Mrs H prepares for us. We take on challenges and apply our knowledge using Maths Workout and TJ Maths textbooks. Everyone gets a turn to try all the different activities.
Here are some links that could help you to develop your fractions, decimals and percentages knowledge and understanding.

Welcome Back and Wet Day Arrangements
Welcome back to the new term at Fisherton Primary and Early Years Centre. I hope you all had an enjoyable and restful holiday!
No sooner are we back and we are faced with the challenge of adverse weather conditions. As you will have seen from the forecasts, the weather is likely to deteriorate over the next few days and it is difficult to anticipate the impact on schools. Please be assured that the safety of the children is always of the highest importance when making any decisions.
The decision as to whether children are inside or outside at break times is always a tricky one. It’s a balance between ensuring the safety of the children and providing them with opportunity to have the space and fresh air which they need to be healthy and achieving in school. I hope the following points will help make the schools position clear.
- In situations of adverse weather, the school will open for pupils at 8:50am and supervision will be provided by Mrs Blain in the gym hall until 9am. Please do not drop your child off earlier than this as they will not be permitted into the school building. We do not have staff available to provide supervision before this time.
- The decision on a ‘wet day’ will usually be made by the HT in consultation with the Janitor, if the HT is not in school then the decision will be taken by the janitor and the member of teaching staff with overall responsibility (currently Mrs Hamilton).
- During wet day breaks the children will be supervised by Mrs Blain and Mr Parks in the P1-4 classroom.
Hopefully we will not need to make use of wet day arrangements for too much longer but I hope this provides some clarity for families on how we operate on a wet day within school.
