Halloween Fun in the Early Years! 🎃

We had a wonderfully fun-filled day celebrating Halloween at the Early Years Centre. The children and staff looked fantastic in their creative costumes. We were joined by little skeletons, devils, superheroes, dinosaurs, mermaids, and even a few friendly film characters!

The children enjoyed taking part in lots of Halloween-themed activities, including dooking for apples, playing party games, and sharing some delicious spooky snacks. The room was filled with laughter, smiles, and giggles, making it a truly special day for everyone.

It was a lovely celebration and a great opportunity for the children to have fun together while enjoying the excitement of Halloween. 🎃✨

Pumpkin Picking Fun in the EYC 🎃

Our very own pumpkin patch opened its doors, and the children had a fantastic time choosing from our beautiful pumpkins, which were on sale for a very special price of just “£1” each!

A huge thank you to our amazing Parent Council for all their support, including the delivery of straw that helped make our pumpkin patch look extra special. We would also like to thank Girvan Pop-Up Events for their generous donation of pumpkins.

As well as having lots of fun, the children were busy learning too. They developed early maths skills by counting pumpkins, comparing sizes and weights, talking about shapes, and using money as they “bought” their own pumpkin. It was a wonderful opportunity to combine learning and play.

We were also delighted to welcome some of our friends from Barr EYC, who joined us for the day. It was lovely to share this special experience together.

Our Learning Adventures in the Early Years

It has been a very busy and exciting term in the Early Years Centre, with the children enjoying a wide range of learning experiences. Recently, we have been exploring emotions through stories, discussions, and games, helping children to recognise, name, and understand their feelings. The children have also loved learning about dinosaurs, discovering different types, their sizes, and how they lived long ago.

As the seasons have changed, the children have been learning about the world around them, spotting signs of Autumn and beginning to talk about the colder winter months. We have also taken time to explore important events such as Remembrance and Guy Fawkes in a sensitive and age-appropriate way.

In literacy, the children have been developing their storytelling skills by retelling familiar stories, sequencing events, and using their own words to share what they remember. Alongside this, we have been exploring shapes through construction, creative activities, and outdoor play.

Our staff have been working closely with the Ayrshire Reads team to support learning around rhyme and syllables. The Early Years team attended training, and Ayrshire Reads staff have modelled interactive sessions with both adults and children. The children have engaged enthusiastically with these activities, which will continue to be a key focus during small group times in the New Year.

Christmas trip – Santa’s cousin Bob

Recently, our nursery children enjoyed a very special trip to an interactive Christmas performance, designed especially for young children and their families.

The story followed Bob, Santa’s cousin, who lives at the North Pole. Bob always tries his best, but often finds things tricky and doesn’t always get things quite right. When Santa comes down with a cold just one week before Christmas, the North Pole is very busy and there is only one person who can help with Santa’s important jobs — Bob.

Although Santa believes Bob can do it, Bob isn’t so sure and needs lots of encouragement. With help from the audience, Bob learns to believe in himself and give it a go.

The interactive show was full of festive fun and explored important themes such as confidence, acceptance, and being yourself. The children loved joining in, and it was a joyful and memorable experience for everyone. 🎄✨

Intergenerational Learning

Recently, we were delighted to welcome the ladies from the Monday Club into our setting. The children were excited to show them around and share some of the activities they enjoy each day. The room was full of conversation, smiles and gentle encouragement as everyone spent time learning and playing together.

We also had the privilege of visiting the beautiful Remembrance knitted display the ladies had created at the cenotaph. The children were fascinated by the colours, textures and care that had gone into the artwork, and it was a lovely opportunity to talk about remembrance in a thoughtful, age-appropriate way.

Their creativity and kindness made the experience truly meaningful, and we are so grateful for the connection we share. Intergenerational moments like this help build understanding, warmth and community across generations.

We look forward to spending more time with the ladies in the New Year.

Families Join the Fun at PEEP!

Over the past few weeks, we have been delighted to welcome Shevon back to lead our PEEP sessions. Families joined their children for hands-on learning experiences filled with playful exploration and discovery. Together, they used their senses to explore touch, sound, and smell, encouraging curiosity and lots of smiles along the way.

Parents, carers, and children also worked closely together to explore emotions. Through stories and fun activities, little ones were supported in recognising and naming their feelings. Families enjoyed using puppets and joining in with plenty of nursery rhymes, singing and clapping along to both much-loved traditional songs and some newer favourites.

It has been lovely to see families learning, playing, and building special connections together. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make these sessions so enjoyable and meaningful.
