Reading – Reading books will be issued on Monday.  Please read a little each night and ask your child some questions as you are reading to ensure they understand the text and are not just reading the words.  A slip has been stuck into the homework diary to let you know which reading colour band your child is currently working on.

Wordwalls – Your child will be issued with their new wordwall if required this week.

Maths – This week we will continue our number formation work.  Numbers 11 – 20 will be issued on Wednesday.

Good afternoon, I hope you are all enjoying your weekend.  News and Homework as follows:

Homework

This week is Maths weeks and as such there will be no reading or spelling homework.  In class we will still be completing ERIC time (Tuesday)and read and munch (Thursday) and I will also continue to hear the children reading individually to set their level.  Children should read for pleasure this week and try and read a little each night.

In class we will be revising our first 3 sounds – sh, th and ch.  This can also be done at home.  This is a link to the game the children have been playing in class to learn their sounds.  http://www.ictgames.com/forestPhonics/fullV_public/index.html

For Maths homework this week, Pupils will be issued with a maths bingo sheet on Monday.  Pupils can complete as many challenges as they wish.

Children now have their Sumdog usernames and passwords in their homework diaries.  It would be great if the pupils play this at home this week.

News

This week is Maths week and the children will be involved in lots of fun maths activities.   On Thursday 14th September we plan to walk to the coop.  The pupils are allowed to bring £1 to spend if they wish.  We will also be recording some prices and working with a partner to note down different items and prices in the shop.  We are looking for 2 adult helpers to join us if possible.  We will be going between 9:30 and 10:30.  If you think you can help please pop a wee note in the bag or diary on Monday night and I will get back to you as soon as possible with arrangements.

Pupils were given a brown envelope on Thursday containing letters.  Please ensure these are returned as one of them is the local walking permission that we need for Thursday.  Thank you in advance.

Thank you as always for your support.

News

This week we continued out Rainforest topic.  On Friday we created our rainforest in the classroom.  The children worked together in their groups to create the plants that we find in the rainforest.  It looks fabulous.  Pictures to follow.  Plants included the Venus fly trap, the Rafflesia (smelly plant) and the Bromeliade.

On Tuesday morning P2 will be watching a theatre production in school as a reward for improving in the Summer reading challenge.  This is in our P.E slot however I will try to fit in extra exercise and our daily mile that day to ensure our fitness levels continue to improve.

Sumdog passwords will be stuck in the homework diaries this week so look out for these so children can log on and start practising their maths skills at home.

I am continuing to work with the children and their reading running records this week.  Wordwalls have also been checked and the next set of words highlighted for practise this week.

We are in the process of booking a Rainforest trip to Amazonia.  Dates and details will be out as soon as possible.

Thank you as always for your support.

I hope you have all had a restful weekend.  Homework and news as follows:

Homework

This week our spelling sound is ch.  Our 4 common words and 4 ch words will be inside the homework jotters.  The spelling instructions are stuck into the front cover of the jotters.

This week your child will also have a wordwall to look at.  I have been spending time in the first 2 weeks going over the first 100 common words for word recognition with your child.  We would like your child to practise reading these wordwall words.  I have highlighted the words to focus on in green but your child can do more if they wish.

Reading running records are being completed this week with your child to set the right reading level.  This is where we give your child an unseen text to pitch the correct reading level for each child.   Your child will have a book in their bookbag to read this week as this is taking place.  Please read a little each night with your child if possible.

Other news

Last week we started our rainforest topic.  We got into our topic groups and created a poster and a team name.  It was great fun.  The children will be making rainshakers in one of the lessons.  If possible we would like the children to bring in an empty clean plastic bottle for this lesson.  Any size is fine.   Thank you in advance.

On Friday we chose our first Paths child of the day.  This child will be given compliments in class on Monday by the other children.  These will then be sent home to show.  It would be great when it is your child’s turn to be child of the day that you choose another 1 or 2 compliments to add to the list.  This will then be discussed the next day in class.  This child of the day will also be given special jobs in class such as choosing our “go noodle” dance and being a class helper.

Thank you for all of your support.
