Read, Write, Count Workshop

Our Inchinnan Parents enjoyed using the Read, Write, Count bags with their child at a workshop on Friday morning.

Read, Write, Count is a campaign by the Scottish Government, supported by Scottish Book Trust and Education Scotland.

It focuses on the importance of families, parents and carers in children’s education and aims to give advice and materials to help families get involved in their children’s learning.

Research tells us that if parents are involved in their child’s learning, their child does better in school. That applies to all parents – it doesn’t matter who they are or where they are from.

One of the biggest parts of the Read, Write, Count campaign is gift bags.

Every child in Primary 1, 2 and 3 in Scotland will receive a free gift bag, containing books and materials for writing and counting. These materials have all been carefully selected so that they are fun to use at home.

In the bags, there will be information for parents giving them all the advice they need to use the bags with their children at home.

At our November Meeting our group discussed raising awareness of Fairtrade throughout the school community. We decided to look into what makes a ‘Fairtrade Village’ and how as a school we could take this forward.

We discussed ideas around the table for fundraising ideas to support our planned Fairtrade coffee morning in January.

Our Chairperson and Vice Chairperson would like to raffle a Fairtrade Prize at our School Christmas Fayre.

To finish off our meeting we had a getting to know you better activity. It was fun and entertaining.

A Visitor to Inchinnan!

This is Elfie. He has come from the North Pole and was hiding in a box outside Mrs McGlynn’s office. This week he is currently in Primary 7 because they won best class award at assembly. He has had an adventurous week and getting into some crazy situations.
