Health and Wellbeing

(Health and Wellbeing, Physical Education)

Our Health and Wellbeing programme includes Nutrition, Safety, Drug and Sex Education which all take account of Physical, Emotional and Social Health.

Personal Development is essentially concerned with self-awareness and self-esteem while Social Development encourages inter-personal skills and independence and inter-dependence. Lessons include discussion, role play, group and one-to-one situations.

Our PE curriculum aims to develop the skills and techniques needed in gymnastics, games and athletics through an extremely comprehensive programme.

Primary 6 pupils participate in the Renfrewshire Council Swimming Scheme.

 We have many links with the local community including Inchinnan Bowling Club with Primary 7s making monthly visits to use their facilities. Our Active Schools Coordinator works with the school to provide a variety of extra-curricular sports activities and clubs. Currently Football, Basketball, Hockey and Rugby.

Our approach to sex education

Relationship, sexual health and parenthood education (RSHPE) forms a key element of personal, social and health education in schools and is an important part of children’s preparation for life, both as they grow up and as adults. The overarching aim of the relationships and sexual health programme is to assist children to make healthy and respectful decisions that will promote positive sexual health and wellbeing for themselves and others.

Key objectives

  • Gain accurate knowledge that is age and stage appropriate;
  • Develop a sense of personal values and morals about relationships and sexual health
  • Develop skills and critical thinking that will help them deal with situations that may occur as they are growing up
  • Know how to access support and advice

This will be achieved by implementing the Renfrewshire Council RSHPE pack that has been designed to provide an effective curriculum which works alongside a process of engagement with parents to enable them to be better informed about the curriculum and better able to enter into discussions on this area.
