Explain Everything

img_7446
Today at the Digital Leaders meeting, we learned how to use the Explain Everything app. This is a great app that turns the iPad into a mini interactive whiteboard. We can explore ideas and share our learning by animating, recording and annotating slides.

In our next session, we will make a plan of how to teach what we have learned to a class of our peers. This will allow them to use the iPads in different areas of learning in class

Christmas Fair – Saturday 3rd December

Saturday 3rd December 2016, 1pm – 3pm

ALL PROCEEDS TO BISHOPTON PRIMARY SCHOOL

Our Christmas Fair is fast approaching and we are looking for donations for our tombola and raffle.

To maintain a balance in donations we are suggesting they are split throughout the year groups as follows:

P1-3 – Beauty/ Cosmetic gift sets, small cuddly toys

P4-7 – Alcohol (beers, wines, spirits etc) and non perishable food items (eg tins of biscuits, boxes of chocolates and sweets)

Please could these be handed into the school office no later than Friday 25th November 2016

(Could any alcohol be handed in by an adult and not given to pupils to hand in.)

We need volunteers to run this event and if you can spare any time on the day of the fair, either to help set up or to run a stall, please contact the parent council (details below)

Please contact Emma Livingstone (07854529999) or Louise Hughes (07403203396)

Travel Champions – Walk to School

Hello from your travel champions!

Our first walk to school challenge begins this week! Every two weeks we will try to encourage pupils to walk to school by asking them to wear something silly or funny! This will be every second Wednesday and on that morning we will come round the classes and count how many people are wearing the chosen item for that week. The winning class will get an extra five minutes playtime!

The first walk to school is this Wednesday! (9th November)

This week the walk to school item is: a Halloween item (fangs, jewellery etc). We thought we would keep the spirit of Halloween going!

Furthermore, we have decided to run a poster competition for the whole school, which will be split into infant, middle and upper. Each pupil will create an A4 poster (on white paper) to promote walking to school. As a class you will pick the two best ones that will be submitted to us for judging. There will be one winner from each of the three areas of  the school and the winning poster will be displayed on the wall for everyone to see. Posters can also be completed at home. The class that the winner comes from will also get five minutes extra playtime!

The competition closes on Wednesday 16th November.

Remember to wrap up warm and keep safe when walking to school!

Bishopton Time Machine

timemachine

Calling all residents of Bishopton! We need your help.

Primary 7S are about to start a new technologies project linked to the history of the village. We would like to turn back the clock to learn all about Bishopton in the past. If you have any stories, photos, books, mementos (or anything else you can think of!) that would help with this project, we would be very grateful. Please send items in with your child or drop in at the school office.

After it has been logged, your item will be returned, so please ensure your name, or child’s name and class, is clearly labelled on what you hand in. If you, or a family member, would be willing to be interviewed about what Bishopton was like in years gone by, please let us know.

The more information we have, the more successful our project will be!

Thank you in advance,

Miss Burnett and P7S

Contemporary German Artists With the Falcons

As part of our European Day of Languages, the Falcons have been learning all about Germany. This morning, they have been learning about two contemporary German artists.

P1-4 have been looking at the work of Astrid Stöeppel. Here are some examples of the work.

P5-7 have been learning about 1010. He is a German street artist who creates 3D illusions on concrete walls. Here are some examples of their work.

Lost Property Has Moved!!

Our lost property has moved to the foyer inside the main entrance of the school.  This should allow parents to quickly locate any missing items when they are visiting the school office.

img_4824

Lost property is once again accumulating very quickly this term. Please make sure that all items that your child brings to school are clearly labelled with their name. This makes it easier to return the items to their owner. Many of our children have the same or very similar items and without names we have no way of determining who they actually belong to. Please check the names on clothing regularly as names do fade in the wash.

We have a number of jackets in lost property at the moment and pictures are included in this post. We are also still trying to track down a blazer and a red school waterproof jacket that are missing. Both these items are labelled with names and we would appreciate it if you would check just in case your child has put on the wrong jacket at the end of a day.

Due to the high volume of lost property we will be clearing out on a regular basis so please contact the school as soon as you discover an item is missing.

School Travel Champions

Your new school travel champions have been appointed from P6G and P6P! They are: Tayla, Cameron, John and Emma. We have conducted surveys in each class to determine how many of us walk or cycle to school. Coming up we will be having a poster competition to encourage walking/cycling to school (details to follow) and each month we will be conducting a walk to school event. We have some fun ideas to encourage everyone to walk to school and each month the best class will get an extra five minutes of playtime! We will keep you updated! img_1448
