As part of Eco week we welcomed Taylor Wimpy 🏡 into our classroom. They taught us all about how they are making their building sites more Eco friendly. We took part in activities and experiments and had lots of fun.

P7M – Big Pedal Wednesday
P6 Bake for Comic Relief
The P6 bake sale today went extremely well! We raised £122.42 for Comic Relief 2017! A huge thank you to everyone who bought our cakes! Also a huge well done to all the P6’s who were fantastic bakers/salespeople! Here are some pictures of the day.
P7 – Big Pedal Tuesday
We had a better turn out of bikes and scooters this morning, despite the snow, sleet and rain! Keep it up, P7!
LEARNING PROFILES
The Learning Journeys will be sent out between Monday 20th and Friday 24th March. We hope you enjoy seeing what your child has been learning about in school.

Eco Week Homework W/B 20.3.17
As part of Eco week all classes will be issued with an eco homework grid for children, this grid will be posted online to make it more eco friendly. The grid is posted below and pupils will be rewarded eco points for completing the homework tasks. Some teachers may also be issuing spelling homework and reading as normal.
Eco Homework Grid

Find something in your house which is eco friendly. Draw and explain what it is used for in your house. |

Comic Relief 2017
We have lots of exciting activities planned for comic relief! Red Nose Day is on the 24th March and we have planned activities throughout the week. All proceeds will go directly to comic relief.
On Monday we will be sending round a ‘Guess How Many Sweeties in the Jar’. This will be 10p a go.
In addition, throughout the week, we ask that any children who are willing to bring in an old toy for charity do so to be sent to a local charity shop. Can children send any donations to Miss Hamilton, Miss Frew or Miss Grant.
On Tuesday the P6’s will be holding a bake sale, each class will have a 10 minute slot to visit the sale and each item will cost 10p.
On Wednesday the P1-3 pupils will have the opportunity to have their faces painted. Consent forms have been sent out today regarding this. This will be 20p a go.
On Thursday, Primary 4 and 5 will have the opportunity to take part in a Danceathon for 20 minutes. This will cost 50p to take part.
Friday will be a non-uniform day and pupils will be asked to wear something red for Red Nose Day. There is a suggested donation of £1 for this.
Primary 7 will have the opportunity to guess the teacher from a set of baby pictures. This will be 10p a go.
We are looking forward to a week full of fun activities.
P6/7 STEM Club
Today we attempted the one minute challenge. We had to create and then adapt our water clock to empty in exactly 1 minute.
Lots of great fun although a little bit wet!
Star of the Week – Friday 10th March
Readathon
A huge thank you to everyone for taking part in our Sponsored Readathon. Our grand total so far is £2800! This will go a long way in helping us add to our Literacy resources across the school. We will still collect money until Friday 17th March.

Secret Achievers!
Each week for our assemblies we ask the children to share any of their achievements from outside school. This could be reaching a new level at swimming, taking part in a chess tournament or being awarded a badge at Brownies.
We are aware that some children do not share their achievements and we are asking for your help to ensure they are receiving the congratulations they deserve. The achievement does not need to be related to a club, sport or winning an award, you may think your child deserves recognition for other things they do outside of school. Perhaps they help their gran with her weekly shop each week or recently looked after their younger brother or sister
.
At the bottom of this post is a copy of an achievement certificate that you are welcome to print off, complete and send it in with your child or email us at bishoptonenquiries@renfrewshire.gov.uk where we can share it.
We know there are lots of secret achievers out there who deserve to be recognised!

Primary 6/7 STEM Club
Today we looked at renewable energies and then created a wind powered car. The group were given the materials list and then creatively developed their models.
Here are some pictures of their fantastic work which was all completed over lunchtime.
The videos of the testing were too large to fit onto the website so I will share them at the next session.
Primary 6/7 Football Team
The team had a tough game against St Anne’s Primary today. It turned into a very windy afternoon making it a difficult for both teams. The team played some good football against the wind and rain. Well done to St Anne’s who scored some lovely goals.
Parents Evening Appointments
In response to your feedback we will be offering a choice of date for the upcoming parents’ evenings. We will do our best to accommodate all requests however it may not be possible to suit everyone due to the limited number of appointments each evening.
Your child has a been issued with a form for you to complete today. Please complete and return this by Monday 6th March. Appointments will be issued by Tuesday 14th March.
If you are able to be flexible we would appreciate if you would choose the either/or option to allow us scope to fulfil as many requests as possible.
World Book Day
World Book Day is fast approaching – this Thursday March 2nd. A wee reminder to continue with your Sponsored Readathon and to bring in any money you have raised on Thursday.
Dress up as your favourite book character or wear onesies/pyjamas – £1 suggested donation.
There will be lots of fun Literacy based activities during the day.

Euroquiz 2017
On Friday the Bishopton Primary Euroquiz team competed in the Renfrewshire Euroquiz heat. Over the last few weeks the team have been working hard to learn lots about Europe and have learned lots of interesting facts. The girls came 6th out of 15 teams which was a fantastic achievement! They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and a great day was had by all. Here are some pictures of our day.
P6-7 Jewellery Masterclass 2
This afternoon we had our second and final jewellery making sessions. What a chilled, co-operative time we all had. I really enjoyed watching you teach other how to make key chains, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and even a ring! You used and shared the materials well, allowing others to make a couple of masterpieces!
P7 – WW2 Bishopton News
Today we received from George O’Neill (a pupil’s parent) about an interesting find of his from a few years ago. He had read in our Twitter feed that I had posted about the unexploded bomb (UXB) in Portsmouth. This story reminded him of his own story about where he lives…
“I work in architecture and a few years back we did some background research on Dargavel (the ROF factory before development started). We found a WW2 German air force aerial reconnaissance photo of the site. Obviously a munitions factory would be of great interest during the war. It got my attention because my house it on it!”

Mr O’Neill says: “You can see Greenock Road/ Kingston road, the school would be just off the top of the map above the word BISHOPTON. A couple of minor miscalculations by a pilot could have made Bishopton a very different place.”
Wow! What a scary thought!
He also said that while digging in his garden a few years ago he discovered a large metal canister! He was assured it was something to do with drainage but he was very careful when covering it back up…just in case!

World Book Day and Sponsored Readathon
Just a reminder that our sponsored readathon has started. I hope you are all enjoying discovering new books and authors! It continues until March 2nd when we celebrate World Book Day. Children should come to school dressed as their favourite book character or wearing onesies/pyjamas. It is not an own clothes day so school uniform should be worn if you choose not to come dressed in one of the options. Suggested donation is £1. We will have lots of exciting activities happening during the day. Children should bring a favourite book to school with them on March 2nd.
Children will soon be taking home their £1 book token which can be redeemed in various retailers against a special World Book Day £1 book or to put towards the cost of another book.

P5 Fundraiser Total!
The money has been counted and we now have a final total. This morning our total was sitting at £290.28 but we managed to encourage some of our teachers to buy up the remainder of the cakes to have with their tea at breaktime. With another donation from Mrs Scott in the office, I am absolutely delighted to say that the final total raised is ………………………………………………. £300.00.
Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to make our Primary 5 fundraiser so successful. The children worked so hard on this and we are very proud of them. Well done everyone!
P5 Fundraiser – Thank you!
Today we held our fundraiser and what a success it was! Some wonderful baking was on offer today. A huge thank you to everyone who came and bought some of the cakes and participated in the activities organised.
The winner of “Guess the Teddy Bear’s Birthday” was Rebecca in P3F who guessed the closest date. Our sweet jar held 3090 “Millions” and Logan in P6P had the closest guess. Well done to both of you!
40 of our fish were “adopted” today. Certificates will be issued over the next few days.
Our “Balloon Pop” was very popular and we ran out of balloons very quickly. A number of you won prizes which will be redeemed by your teachers over the next week or so.
I will post a final total for the money raised very soon (once it has all been counted) but once again, thank you for making this a very successful event for Primary 5.

P7 – WW2 Show & Rookie Rockstars
Dear Parent/Carer,
WW2 Show – Tuesday, 21st March 6.30-7.30pm
The pupils will be working with members of G.A.M.T.A. to create a performance based on World War Two. We will be showcasing this event on Tuesday 21st March from 6.30-7.30pm. All pupils will be involved. Tickets are free of charge and will be limited to two per family in the first instance and then will be on a first come first serve basis. We look forward to welcoming you to this event.
Rookie Rockstars – Tuesday, 2nd May and Wednesday, 3rd May 6.15-7.30pm
This year, as part of being a Nurture Pathfinder School we have introduced Bounce Back. To consolidate this, we have organised a whole school visit from Rookie Rockstars, a Music and Anti-Bullying Charity. Rookie Rockstars will work with the pupils the week beginning Monday 24th April, to teach them songs and record a CD. The theme of the songs promotes self-esteem and values. The following week we have organised two events to showcase the songs at Ingliston Country Club, Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd May, 6.15-7.30pm.
The Eagles and Ospreys will perform on Tuesday 2nd May then the Falcons and Hawks on Wednesday 3rd May. As we expect a high turnout for this event we will be limited to sell two tickets per family in the first instance and then will be on a first come first serve basis. The cost of the tickets will cover the expenses of Rookie Rockstars. CDs of the songs will be available to pre-order and other merchandise will be available at the events. £1 from every CD sold will help to raise money for the school funds.
Ingliston Country Club have very kindly agreed to host this event free of charge as they would like to promote community spirit. Palomino’s restaurant will be open before and after the event but they expect to be busy, so please book at least two weeks in advance and leave plenty of time for service. They will also be opening ‘On the Hoof ‘at 5.00pm offering hot snacks, filled rolls, cakes, pastries, teas & coffees etc. This is an indoor facility and has a seating area with tables, although the arena is quite cold so dress appropriately. More information about the events will be provided nearer the time.
We are very excited about this whole school event as Rookie Rockstars has an amazing reputation. Please visit their website for more information: https://rookierockstars.org.uk/ We are looking forward to watching the pupils perform and hope to have a great turnout for both events.
