Christmas Jumper Day 2016

CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY 2016

On Friday 16th December, we are inviting all pupils to take part in our annual Christmas Jumper Day in aid of Save the children. A donation for doing so would be much appreciated. All proceeds will be sent to Save the Children

Everyone will be invited to wear their silliest, sparkliest or cosiest Christmas jumper to school. If your child doesn’t have a festive sweater, don’t worry – it’s easy to decorate a plain jumper or top with tinsel, baubles or homemade snowflakes. Likewise, any hat will do! This will be a non-uniform day.

We’d really appreciate your help to make Christmas Jumper Day a huge success.

Lunar Colonies

As we are coming to the end of our science topic of Space, we imagined what it would be like if we had to leave our home planet of Earth. We pretended to be on a mission to the moon to live and had to make lots of hard decisions in the meantime. We created our own lunar colonies which detailed a food source, water source, lodgings, heating and ways to deal with the the little amount of gravity on the moon. We quickly realised that solar power would be the best way to power most things and also talked about greenhouses to grow food. We found it interesting to imagine how our lives would transfer to a habitat like the moon. Here are some pictures of our lunar colonies!

Bridge Modelling

At the end of last week we completed our technology project of using junk to build a bridge. We related this to the famous Victorian Isambard Kingdom Brunel who was the man who created the first bridge. We learned about different types of bridges and structures which made them strong. We used junk to model them to hold a 1kg weight. We all worked extremely hard and enjoyed testing our bridges! We now have some kind of idea of the hard work and design that goes with building a bridge!

Library visits

image image image image image image image image

For the past few weeks P3F having been enjoying fortnightly visits to  Bishopton library. While at the library and in school the children have not only been able to choose books to read but learn about books.

In class we have been looking at different types of genres which was then further discussed at the library, as a result the children were able to confidently answer questions and talk to the librarians about types of books. On another occasion the children then learned about  the different stages of production a book goes through, this included some role play too!

We hope to maintain our fortnightly visit to the library after the Christmas holidays. Here are a few photos from the various trips to the library!

Junk Models

Hello

We are hoping to construct junk models next week in class as part of our topic. I have been collecting boxes, cartons, cardboard tubes, and other various household waste. If the children could bring in any items which would normally be recycled, I would be very grateful.

Tomorrow the children will also receive their feedback slips in relation to their topic talks. Thank you again for your support at home with these talks and I hope you enjoy reading the feedback.

Have a lovely evening.
