P2/1 Hour of Code

hourofcode_logo_rgbWe live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever area of work you decide to go into as adults, your ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.

That’s why our school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 5-11). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code.

Today, P2/1 continued their coding lessons using ScratchJr. We focused on adding sounds and movements to different sprites. ScratchJr is great fun! Well done on completing your Hour of Code!

Sumdog Passwords

Good evening!

I have stuck each child’s password for the Sumdog website in the back page of their homework diary. Please let me know if the children have any issues when trying to log on.

Thank you very much for all of the recyclable items which you have sent in for us to build junk model robots as part of our topic. We will be continuing to collect items next week, as we will be making our models at the end of the week.

Have a lovely evening.
Miss Hamilton.

The Sumdog National Contest starts tomorrow, Friday 9th Dec at 8am and finishes at 8pm on Thursday 15th at 8pm.

You will be ranked on a leaderboard by the number of correct answers you give. If there’s a tie, you will be ranked  on average answer speed.

Classes are ranked on the average number of correct answers. Ten pupils from a class need to play in the contest for it to appear on the leaderboard.

Come on, have some fun while learning and help our class to show off our skills!

P5S – Hour of Code

Image result for hour of code

This morning we took part in the Hour of Code programme. Before we started we watched a video telling us just how important the world of coding is. Can you tell someone at home all about it? You could even show them the video. Click the link below if you want to watch the video again.

Coding Video

Once we watched our introductory video it was time to take part in some Star Wars themed coding. What fun everyone had …… even at the tricky parts! We found that we had to read the instructions very carefully to ensure we used the correct code for each level or it wouldn’t work properly. Even I had a wee go with some of you and managed it!

Have a look at our photographs from today’s session.

P5H Book Detective Homework – due 13.12.12

Good afternoon everyone, here is your Book Detectives homework for this week.

Your homework pages this week are :

Blue –  Call 999 P21 – end of book

Yellow – Scrap Man and Scrapcat P27 – end of book

Red – The Case of the Smiling Shark Chpt4 – end of book

Green – Sing for your Supper Chpt3 – end of book

Once you have completed your reading you should complete your  two segments using the information from the pages/chapters you have read.

Question Master:

Please write out 1 literal and 1 evaluative question pus one other which can be either literal or evaluative (your choice) which can be shared with your group members during our next session on Tuesday.

Please remember to provide sentence answers for each of your questions.  A number of you are forgetting this part of your homework.

Illustrator:

Please create a detailed picture of something important in the part of the book you have read. Please do not copy illustrations that are in the book as the idea of this task is for you to show your understanding of the story in a drawing.  A short  explanation of why you chose your illustration should also be included. If possible please colour your illustration with pencil.

Remember to choose a short section/paragraph from the book to read aloud to your group members. You should briefly explain your choice.

This task should be completed in your Book Detectives jotter for Tuesday 13th December.

Please remember if you do not complete this task fully you will find it hard to participate in our class lesson and it will be recorded as incomplete homework.

As you are all now coming to the end of your books, this will be the last Book Detectives homework until after our Christmas break.

See you tomorrow.

Mrs Hughes

P3F Nativity

P3F have been trying really hard during all of our rehearsals for the  Christmas nativity. We have a starring role at the beginning of the show. It would be much appreciated if parents could go through the children’s lines with them. These were giving out a few weeks ago to encourage children to practise. This is just a little extra reminder as the show is nearing.

We can’t wait for all the parents to see how fantastic our show is! See you Thursday 15th December.
