We have booked 2 library visits this term.  These will be Tuesday 28th February and Tuesday 14th March.  We will be going along to Bishopton Library straight after registration and should be back in school for 10:30 on these days.  We are looking for some parent helpers to come with us.  If you are able to attend please pop a small note in the diary and I will get back to you as soon as possible.   We also have a school trip before the Easter holidays with date to follow.

For our upcoming topic The Egyptians, P3/2 will need some shoe boxes.  If you have any can you please send them in to class.  Thank you.

Hi P2/1

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

Last week, we had a very special visit from Mr Dragon and his baby dragon friend who we have named Fire. Fire is from Fairyland and he is hoping that we can help everyone believe in the magic of fairy tales again.

Along with the other P1 and P2 classes, we are going to help Fire and all of his friends in our new topic, Fairyland. This week, we are going to be transforming our classroom into a welcoming and exciting area which helps to promote fairy tales. As part of this, we are going to have a topic table where we can display stories and items from home related to fairy tales. If you have anything at home that you wish to bring in to display on our topic table, please ensure that it labelled with your name. All items will be returned at the end of our topic.

P5H Homework and Reminders – w/b 30.1.17

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are having a lovely relaxing weekend after a busy week in school. I hope you are looking forward to another busy week when, among other things, we will be starting our new Clyde in the Classroom topic. Please continue reading for your homework and reminders.

Spelling: Please complete list ie for ee  or ly in your spelling homework jotter for Thursday. Please continue to write out your spelling words 3 times using SaCaWaC in the same way as we do in class. You should then write a sentence for each of your first 6 spelling words. This week we are concentrating on the V of VCOP – vocabulary, you should have at least one wow word in each sentence. It would be wonderful if you continued to use the other areas of VCOP too, however I will only be focusing on assessing your fabulous vocabulary.

Reading: We are continuing with our novel study – Danny the Champion of the World. As discussed in class there is no formal written homework to be completed for this. However, please remember if you do not complete the reading you will be unable to take part in the class lesson. Please read chapters 9 and 10 for Wednesday 8th February.

If you find there are words that you don’t understand please take a note of them in your Book Detectives jotter (remembering the page number) and, if possible, use a dictionary to find out their meaning . We will start our lesson by discussing them in class. We have been getting some very interesting words to discuss, including ravenous and decarbonizing!

Personal Reading Challenge: As discussed in class this challenge will be ongoing for the whole of this term (9 weeks). I have been really pleased to see so many of you recording your books in your reading passports, keep it up!! Remember it is the quality of the books you read that is important. Please choose carefully to ensure the books you are reading are at the correct level for you – not too easy or too hard. Remember you can bring your book to school as this will allow you to read it during our ERIC time.

Maths:  This week Mrs. O’Neill has posted another set of worded problems on your maths homework blog.  Please complete these in  your maths homework jotter. As always, please read each question carefully. You should ensure you are showing workings AND giving a full sentence answer. This homework is due for Thursday.

A high standard of work is being produced from the majority of you. Well done, keep it up!

Both group 1 and group 2 can find their maths homework here:

Group 1

Group 2

As discussed in class there has been a slight dip in some of our Beat That! scores. Please remember to access the Multiplication and Division Trainer for extra practice. You can access it using the links below.  Remember Go for Green!

Here are your reminders for this week:

  1. Due to Recycling Heroes visiting the school P.E. will only be on Tuesday this week. Please ensure you have a P.E. kit in school. Please also remember to  have a bottle of water with you as you will be working hard.
  2. If you haven’t already done so, please remember to cover all your homework jotters.
  3. If possible, please remember to bring in an old shirt or tee-shirt which is big enough to cover your uniform during our art activities. This can be left in school until the end of term/session if you wish.  Also any old newspapers would be great for covering your desk.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

See you tomorrow.

Good morning everyone! Another weekend is nearly over. I hope you have had a lovely time. Keep reading for a rundown of our homework and reminders for this week.

Spelling:  Units 25 and 32 should be completed this week. You should continue to copy each word out three times in your spelling jotter. You should then write an uplevelled sentence (remembering to use interesting VCOP) for the six spelling rule words. I have been very impressed with the openers being used in your sentences these last few weeks. Well done! I would also like you to consider how you could include some more ambitious connectives alongside these openers. This will make your sentences even more interesting!

This task should be completed by Friday.

Reading:  Please read chapters 9 and 10 of our class novel: The Borrowers. There is no written homework to be completed for this as it will be done in class. However, please remember if you do not complete the reading you will be unable to participate in the class lesson. All reading should be completed for Thursday.

As discussed in class, if you come across any vocabulary that you are unsure of the definition, please use a dictionary to find this out. You may also take a note of it in your Book Detectives jotter (remember to take a note of the page number) and we can discuss it in class.

Personal Reading Challenge: We now have 9 weeks (single figures) of reading left. You have set yourself a personal target based on the number of books read last term and the aim is to reach it (or beat it!) before the end of term. Please remember to bring your book to school as this will allow you to read it during our ERIC sessions.

Please remember to record the books in your reading passport as you finish them. The passport is kept in class.

Maths: Please click the link below for your maths homework. This task should be completed in your maths homework jotter.  You should return this task by Friday.

Hansel and Gretel

On Thursday Douglas the dragon brought us another clue about a fairytale.  We guessed – sweeties = Hansel and Gretel.  We wrote descriptions of the setting – that’s where the story takes place.  Here were our ideas about the witch’s house – a red roof, made of sweets, like a rainbow, has candy canes, yummy.

We made 3D cottages thanks to the other Mrs Ferguson in the kitchen giving us lunch bags.  We made puppets and acted out the story.

What will Douglas bring next? Watch this space.

Homework – book, wordwall, new sound ee/or as in tree/storm, blending booklet – i words, maths – counting to 0 – 20 and 20 – 0.

We will visit the library on Friday this week, so please make sure you have your library book with you.  Thank you to people who have offered to help.

Remember – the new menu starts this week – we’re on week 4.

In class we have been learning about the days of the week.  We enjoyed this game  and this song.

P7 Burns Supper

Well, the P7 classes have two very proud teachers because all of the planning and organising paid off! You hosted a successful Burns Supper with a total of 110 guests. We decorated the Gym Hall in the morning, had a quick run-through and then it was time for the actual event. Everything ran smoothly and the guests had a ball. Everyone was impressed with the performances and food. You truly did a wonderful job!

P5 – Our Fish Eggs Have Arrived!

Image result for brown trout eggs

Our fish have arrived! Late this afternoon Lesley, our fish scientist, delivered our fish eggs. It is now our responsibility  to look after them ………. and keep them alive!

Each day a different group will be in charge of checking the temperature in the tank (3 times a day), recording the temperatures each time, replacing the ice packs (to keep the temperature at the right setting), keeping the water clean, removing any dead eggs (hopefully not) and replacing the water. All ice packs must be replaced in the freezer too so that we have a constant supply. If you are on duty on a Friday, you have an added responsibility of ensuring we have enough ice packs in the tank to keep it cool ALL weekend. Lots to do and a LOT of responsibility!

Tomorrow afternoon you will all have the opportunity to see the eggs before they start hatching which could happen any day. It’s all very exciting!

P5-7 Construction Masterclass

This afternoon we had our second Creative Construction. You had to work with others to create a safe place for an alien to live.

Success Criteria

The model must:

  • Have an entrance
  • Have at least two ‘rooms’
  • Be creative (think outside of the box

Learning Outcomes:

Through discovery and imagination, I can develop and use problem-solving strategies to construct models. TCH 2-14a

Having evaluated my work, I can adapt and improve, where appropriate, through trial and error or by using feedback. TCH 2-14b

P7 Burns Supper Cooking

This morning we worked together to prepare and cook soup and shortbread for tomorrow afternoon’s Burns Supper. For the lentil and vegetable soup, we had to boil vegetable stock with red lentils to soften them. We had to peel and chop potatoes, grate carrots and dice leeks before adding them to the stock and lentils. The soup chefs did a marvellous job of preparing their ingredients and tidying and clearing the dishes. I can’t wait to taste the soup tomorrow!

P1H Visitor

We have had a visitor in class from Fairyland! Your child will be given a chance to bring him home for 1 night and read him a story!!! Please help your child to draw a picture in Danny the Dragon’s special diary and return him to school the next day.  If he doesn’t come back, he can’t go on his next adventure!

P7M Algebra Facts & Games

Please use the weblinks below to practise what we have been learning in class. Remember the key rules when solving algebraic equations:

  • You want to get the variable (the letter) on its own on one side of the equation. For example, y + 5 = 10. What do you need to do to get the y on its own? Subtract 5! y + 5 – 5
  • Remember that whatever you do to one side of the equation, you must do to the other… so it balances! y + 5 – 5 = 10 – 5
  • Show all of your working, to record your thought process and understanding.              y + 5 = 10
  •                                          y + 5 – 5 = 10 – 5
  •                                                        y = 5
  • For more complex or multi-step algebraic equations, take one step at a time and use the above rules. For example,
  •                                      3y – 6 = 24
  •                              3y – 6 + 6 = 24 + 6
  •                                             3y =   30
  •                                      3y ÷ 3 = 30 ÷ 3
  •                                                 y = 10

P5S – Let’s Cook!

Image result for scales clipart

This morning you had the opportunity to bake some shortbread for the whole of Primary 5. Each group had to start from scratch and weigh out all of the ingredients before following the recipe. How closely did you follow the recipe? Did you follow the steps carefully? After all the mixing, it took a little time getting the consistency of the mixture right but we got there in the end.

After all the preparation was completed everyone had to tidy up and we had a few people washing the dishes for the first time. Maybe now you can help out at home!

We waited until this afternoon to try your shortbread so as not to spoil your lunch. What did you think of it? Would you be able to make it at home? If you would like a copy of the recipe, please ask.

P5H were making  cranachan for us all. This is a traditional Scottish dessert. Well done to all of you who tried it …… even when you weren’t so keen to do so! Some of you thoroughly enjoyed it and had a second helping.

As always, here are a few photographs from this morning.

Week beginning 23rd January

  • reading
  •  word wall
  •  new sound – ie  ( as in tie)
  •   blending book ‘e’ words.  If your child finds this challenging,  split the list up and try different ones on different nights.  If your child is blending well, then an alternative would be to see if they can think of other CVC words with ‘e’ in the middle.
  • Maths will be issued on Tuesday, return by Friday please. -highlighted on Maths homework sheet
  • On Wednesday your child will be entertaining people who have been invited to the Community Café in school. We have been learning Coulter’s Candy and Three Craws.
  • Keep up the good work learning the poems. The children have  been practising saying them in front of their classmates and  have been very good at helping each other when someone gets stuck.  We will be choosing a class winner on Wednesday to represent the class  at our Scottish assembly.
