P5 Fish Release

Image result for brown trout

Tomorrow afternoon (Thursday) we will be saying goodbye to our class fish. We have looked after them so well it is now time to let them go. Our scientist from Clyde in the Classroom has found the perfect spot for their release and we will be heading there tomorrow afternoon. As it has been so wet recently the ground is rather muddy therefore you MUST wear suitable footwear. Wellington boots would be perfect. Please wear your school shoes as normal in the morning and bring your boots in a separate bag to change into before we leave. A suitable waterproof jacket should also be worn as we will be walking there and back. The forecast has to be cold so hats, scarves and gloves should be worn also.

P2 Library Visit

P2 will be joining P3/2 on a couple of Library Visits over the next few weeks. They will be visiting the library on Tuesday 28th February and Tuesday 14th March.  P2 will be going along to Bishopton Library straight after registration and should be back in school for 10:30 on these days.  We are looking for a parent helper to accompany them on these dates.  If you are able to attend, please pop a small note in the diary and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Library Visit

P1H and P1s from P2/1 will be visiting the library on Wednesday 1st March at 2.15pm. We are looking for parent helpers to accompany us on this trip. If you are free and willing to help us on this date, could you please put a note in your child’s diary and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you!

P.S. If you have not yet returned your old library book to school, please do so ASAP.

P5S Library Visit

Image result for bookworm

This morning we had another visit to the library where you returned your books and chose some new ones. Once again quite a number of books were taken out to use in our Personal Reading Challenge. It was great to see so many of you trying different authors too. Well done!

We still have 6 weeks of our Personal Reading Challenge to go so still plenty of time for reading, especially since we have our school readathon going on for World Book Day.

Our next visit to the library will be on Tuesday 21st March. This will allow you to take out some books to read over the Easter break.

Here are a few photographs from today’s visit.

World Book Day

As you know World Book Day is fast approaching – next Thursday 2nd March.  I hope everyone is working on their readathon and hope you have managed to get a few sponsors.

As part of our World Book Day celebration, we would like to make a display of photographs showing all our class reading in different places and with different people – eg. at home with mum and dad, at gran’s , with the dog, at the park (weather permitting). Please send your photos in as soon as possible

P7M – Figurative Language

You worked really well in co-operative groups this morning to research the different types of figurative language. At first, you looked a little bamboozled when I first introduced hyperboles and idioms, and I thought some of you might run for the hills (ha ha…it’s an idiom). However I heard some great suggestions of your own once you got going. Well done! Please use the links below to practise these because if you use these in your writing, it will sound so much more impressive.

P7M – Figurative Language Carousels

This morning, you are going to work in groups to research different types of figurative language which can be used to make your writing more interesting.

We will be looking at similes, metaphors, alliteration, onomatopoeia, personification, idioms and hyperboles. You will have a short time at each station to research and create different examples of the given figurative language. You must first check your group has an understanding and then read the examples provided. You should then use the weblinks to research other examples and use these to create your own to record on the sheet. Please read the previous group’s work to check you are not repeating their ideas.

Coming soon – Big Pedal 2017

Before you know it, our Big Pedal event will be here.  In case you don’t know – that’s when everyone in our school is encouraged to bring their bike or scooter to school to increase their physical fitness and just have fun with their friends in school.

We would ask that parents check over all bikes and scooters before children bring them to school.  Please also ensure bikes and scooters are the correct size for your child. Helmets and any other protective clothing should be worn too.

Sustrans, the charity which organises the Big Pedal, offers advice on safety.

M check for bikes.

L check for scooters.

Thank you for your help.

Watch out for more information on the Big Pedal.

P7 – Drama: Session 1

This afternoon we had our first session with Euan from G.A.M.T.A. You started with a warm-up, both your body and your voices. Euan is going to create a show based on WW2 so he split you into groups to brainstorm what you facts you already know. You then prepared a presentation to share your knowledge with your peers. Some of the facts were true but some of them will need a little bit of research to clarify their origin!

Euan then gave your group a scenario to act out. Can you tell from the photos who is doing what? You finished by letting Euan hear a couple of the WW2 songs you have been learning. Overall, a great start to our drama sessions!

P2/1 Primary Engineering Challenge

Hi

Fire, our friendly dragon from fairyland, left us a very important note on Friday. He informed us that Cinderella’s carriage had broken down and that there was no way for Cinderella to get to the ball. To help Cinderella, P2/1 have been set a challenge by Fire, to learn more about engineering and to design and build a vehicle to transport Cinderella to the ball.

We have 6 weeks to complete our task and as a class, P2/1 are already taking their challenge very seriously. We will be hearing from Fire over the next few weeks to guide us through our challenge but in the meantime, we are hoping to learn a little more about what engineering is and how it affects our daily lives.

To help us learn more about engineering, we are looking for volunteers, who have a background in engineering, to come into school and share their experiences about the work that they do.

If you are willing or know anyone who would be willing to come into school to talk to the children, please leave a note in your child’s diary. Thank you!

PE days are still Thursday and Friday.  Could girls continue to wear their hair tied back on these days?  Remember polo shirts are easier for the children on PE days.

Water bottles-  we encourage children to bring bottles of water to school rather than juice to drink in class.  We have had quite a few leaking bottles recently and as you can imagine juice is not as easy to clean up and can leave a sticky residue.  Children have opportunities to fill up their water bottles through the day. Please encourage children to have their juice at playtime and lunchtime.

P5H Homework & Reminders – w/b 20.2.17

Good morning everyone, I hope you are having a lovely weekend and relaxing after all the hard work you put in to make our fundraising event such a success! Please continue reading for your homework and reminders.

Spelling: Please complete lists a for o or est in your spelling homework jotter for Thursday. Please continue to write out your spelling words 3 times using SaCaWaC in the same way as we do in class. You should then write a sentence for each of your first 6 spelling words. We are again concentrating on the V of VCOP – vocabulary this week. You should be trying to have at least one wow word in each sentence (many of you should be aiming for more). I will again be focusing on assessing your fabulous vocabulary.

Reading: We are continuing with our novel study – Danny the Champion of the World. Please remember if you do not complete the reading you will be unable to take part in the class lesson. Please read chapters 13, 14 and 15 for Tuesday 28th February.

If there are words that you don’t understand please take a note of them in your Book Detectives jotter (remembering the page number) and, if possible, use a dictionary to find out their meaning . We will start our lesson by discussing them in class.

Personal Reading Challenge: Your challenge will be on going for the whole of this term (6 weeks to go!). I am delighted to see so many of you continuing to fill in your Personal Reading Passports. Remember to choose your books carefully to ensure they are at the correct level for you – not too easy or too hard. You can bring your book into school as this will allow you to read it during our ERIC time.

Listening & Talking: This term you have a solo presentation to complete. You are responsible for planning, organising and preparing your presentation which you will be presenting in class on Tuesday 28th February. Please click here to see the task sheet with all of the details required. If you require a paper copy of the task sheet, please ask me and I will arrange one for you.

Maths:   I have posted another set of worded problems on your maths homework blog.  Please complete these in  your maths homework jotter. As always, please read each question carefully. You should ensure you are showing workings AND giving a full sentence answer. This homework is due for Thursday.

A high standard of work is being produced from the majority of you. Well done, keep it up!

Both group 1 and group 2 can find their maths homework here:

Primary 5 have the opportunity to visit the City Halls in Glasgow  to be part of the audience for the Ten Pieces concert being held on Wednesday 1st March. A letter and consent form have been issued with all of the relevant information. Here are your reminders for this week:

  2. For those of you who haven’t already done so, please cover all your homework jotters. This helps to keep your jotters in good condition.
  3. Some of you have already brought in an old shirt or tee-shirt to cover your uniform during our art activities. For those of you have not, we will be working on our River Clyde mural throughout the topic so it would be good if you could manage to bring one in. This can be left in school until the end of term/session if you wish.
  4. Please remember if anyone at home is (or has been) linked to the River Clyde in any way through work, we would love to hear from them. Please click here for further information.

See you all on Monday.
