Good afternoon everyone, I hope you enjoyed your first couple of days back at school and you have had a lovely weekend. Please keep reading for your homework and reminders.
Spelling: Please complete list o, os, oes or ng in your spelling homework jotter for Thursday. Our spelling homework has changed this term. Please write out your spelling words 3 times using SaCaWaC which I will explain to you tomorrow. You should then write a sentence for each of your spelling rule words concentrating on using interesting VCOP – vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation.
Reading: This term we will be completing novel study – Danny the Champion of the World. As a result there will be no written homework to be completed for this. However, please remember if you do not complete the reading you will be unable to take part in the class lesson. I will hand out your novels on Tuesday, please read chapters 3 and 4 for Tuesday 17th.
If you find any vocabulary that you are unsure of its meaning, please use a dictionary to find out. You can also take a note of it in your Book Detectives jotter, remembering to take a note of the page number, and we can discuss it in class.
Personal Reading Challenge: As explained in class on Thursday this challenge will continue this term (12 weeks) with a slight change. This term you will set your own target for the number of books you will read. Remember it is the quality of the books you read not the quantity that is important. Please choose carefully to ensure the books you are reading are at the correct level for you – not too easy or too hard.
Please remember to record the books in your reading passport, which is kept in class, when you start a new book and complete your review when you finish it.
Maths: This week I have posted another set of worded problems on your maths homework blog. Please complete these in your maths homework jotter. As always, please read each question carefully. You should ensure you are showing workings AND giving a full sentence answer. This homework is due for Thursday. All jotters should now be covered.
A high standard of work is being produced from most of you. Well done! Keep it up!

Topic: As part of our mini Scotland topic you must choose a Scottish poem to learn. You will then perform your chosen poem to the class and another stage within the school. We will then have a class winner who will represent our class at our annual Burns’ Assembly at the end of January.
Mrs O’Neill has very kindly selected a number of poems for you to choose from which can be accessed using the link below.
Scottish Poems
If you have another Scottish poem that you would like to perform instead, please let me know. All poems should be chosen by Thursday as this will allow you plenty of time to practice.
Here are your reminders for this week:
- There is a change to the lunch menu this week. On Monday macaroni cheese will be served instead of roast pork.
- P.E. is on Tuesday and Thursday. If you have not already done so, please ensure you have a P.E. kit in school. Please remember to have a bottle of water with you for both sessions.
- Please remember to cover all your homework jotters.
- If possible please remember to bring in an old shirt or tee-shirt which is big enough to cover your uniform during any art activities. Also any old newspapers would be great for covering your desks.
