P5H Homework and Reminders – w/b 16.1.17

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are enjoying  your weekend after the very busy week we’ve had. I hope you are looking forward to next week. Please keep reading for your homework and reminders.

Spelling: Please complete list u for ue  or le in your spelling homework jotter for Thursday. Please continue to write out your spelling words 3 times using SaCaWaC which I have explained to you in class. You should then write a sentence for each of your spelling rule words concentrating on using interesting VCOP – vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation.

Reading: This term we will be completing  a novel study – Danny the Champion of the World. As discussed in class there is no formal written homework to be completed for this. However, please remember if you do not complete the reading you will be unable to take part in the class lesson. Please read chapters 5 and 6 for Tuesday 24th Jan.

If you find any vocabulary that you are unsure of its meaning, please use a dictionary to find out.  Also take a note of it in your Book Detectives jotter, remembering to take a note of the page number, and we will discuss it in class.

Personal Reading Challenge: As discussed in class this challenge will be ongoing for the whole of this term. You now have 11 weeks of reading left. You have all set yourself a personal target based on the number of books you read last term. Your aim is now to reach that target or beat it! Remember it is the quality of the books you read that is important. Please choose carefully to ensure the books you are reading are at the correct level for you – not too easy or too hard. Please remember to bring your book to school as this will allow you to read it during our ERIC time.

Please remember to record the books in your reading passport when you start a new book and complete your review when you finish it. Your passports are kept in class.

Maths:  This week Mrs. O’Neill has posted another set of worded problems on your maths homework blog.  Please complete these in  your maths homework jotter. As always, please read each question carefully. You should ensure you are showing workings AND giving a full sentence answer. This homework is due for Thursday. All jotters should now be covered.

A high standard of work is being produced from most of you. Well done! Keep it up!

Both group 1 and group 2 can find their maths homework here:

Topic: Part of our mini Scotland topic was to choose a Scottish poem to learn. You will perform your poem to the class and another stage within the school. We will then have a class winner who will represent our class at our annual Burns’ Assembly at the end of January.

Almost everyone has chosen their poem and you should now be practicing for our recital. Please click here to see the areas you will be judged on.

Here are your reminders for this week:

  1. P.E. is on Tuesday and Thursday. If you have not already done so, please ensure you have a P.E. kit in school. Please remember to  have a bottle of water with you for both sessions.
  2. If you haven’t already done so, please remember to cover all your homework jotters.
  3. If possible please remember to bring in an old shirt or tee-shirt which is big enough to cover your uniform during any art activities. Also any old newspapers would be great for covering your desks.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

See you tomorrow.

Mrs. Hughes
