P4A – Perfect Silly Tubs (Build-a-Business)

p4a-logo

This week you will have received your order form from the P4A Build-a-Business Perfect Silly Tubs. The class have been working very hard on this project over the last few weeks in various teams. We have the management team, market research, finances, production (who will be very busy next week!), quality control and marketing. Each group has some very specific jobs to do each week to make the business a success.

Below is an example of the order form. So the business does not get overwhelmed with orders, we are limiting each child to 1 of each kind of tub (you don’t have to buy both, or any if you don’t want to!).  If you are wanting to order one of the customised tubs with a special name on, please enter the name as you would like it on the tub on the form. This will help the production team meet your requirements.

We would be really grateful if you could send in the exact money with your completed order form as the finances team will only be adding up the orders and the money during our technologies time on a Friday. Once we have the orders in and we start production, we will send the tubs home a few orders at a time, so there may be a short delay between getting your order form in and receiving your order. We are sure you won’t mind waiting for your Perfect Silly Tub!

Thank you very much for supporting the business and I hope you enjoy talking to your child about all the things they have been doing so far during our Build-a-Business project.

Roots and Wings Community Cafe

Hello there! We are still after helpers for our next community cafe!

On Wednesday 22nd February, the school will be hosting our second intergenerational community cafe. We will have some visitors from Erskine Care Home as well as older members of our local community. Primary 5S will be hosting our second cafe (with help from the House Captains) and spending time with our visitors while doing some different activities.

If there is anyone you know who you think would be interested in coming the cafe, please let them know the details from the poster below. One of the main aims of Roots and Wings is to tackle loneliness in our local community and enable the different ages to enjoy spending time together.

Here are some quote from the children and our guests from the last cafe:

“It was really good fun talking to the visitors!”

“Bob told us about how he landed on Gold beach at D-Day. He was actually there.”

Arnott was really funny!”

“I liked showing them my book about fairies.”

“I have had a wonderful day. It has made me very emotional. The school should be very proud of the children.”

“What a lovely idea! The wee ones did brilliantly with their singing and dancing.”

“I hope I can come back again!”

We would like to offer our guests some drinks and biscuits as part of the cafe and need some helpers to assist in the serving of the refreshments. You do not have to be a P5S parent/carer to help out!

It would be wonderful to have four parent helpers to make our next Roots and Wings Cafe a big success! It will run from 1.30-3pm (if the helpers could come for 1pm that would be ideal) and if you are able to help, please comment on this post below, or pop a note in your child’s homework diary.

Thank you in advance for your help and support!

Who knows what the weather will be like so best to be prepared for rain!

Please ensure the photo permission form has been returned by Thursday too.

P1F – Evaluating Dips

Today, P1F started a new food technology topic. This term, we will be learning all about different kinds of dips and dippers and testing some out. We will try to explain what we like, or dislike, about them.

The first lesson involved trying 4 different dips: hummus, guacamole, salsa and sour cream and chive. I was very impressed that all of you tried all of the dips, especially when you were not too sure about them! Well done for having a try! As we discussed in class, you can’t really say you don’t like something if you’ve never tried it!

Here are some of the things you said about the different dips:

“I liked that it was red.”

“I’ve had it at my house before!”

“I really liked the taste of it.”

“I thought I wouldn’t like it but I did!”

“It tastes good!”

“I liked the brown colour.”

“The smell of the hummus was good.”

“I liked the wee green bits.”

“The colour being green was good.”

At the end of the lesson we voted on which was our favourite and made a human bar graph. The least favourite was guacamole (which is my favourite, it’s so yummy!) and the one with the most votes was sour cream and chives.

I hope you enjoyed telling everyone at home about all the delicious dips you tried today and will give them another try if you get the chance. Next week we will be trying out different kinds of dippers and seeing if we can describe them.

The first lesson involved trying 4 different dips: hummus, guacamole, salsa and sour cream and chive. I was very impressed at how many of you tried all of the dips, especially when you were not too sure about them! Well done for having a try! As we discussed in class, you can’t really say you don’t like something if you’ve never tried it!

Here are some of the things you said about the different dips:

“I like the one with green bits in it.”

“It wasn’t too spicy, kind of in the middle.”

“The colour was kind of brown.”

“I liked the flavour.”

“I like it on the breadstick.”

“Super-duper-duper yummy!”

“The smell of the sour cream was yummy.”

“I could keep on eating it!”

“I liked it because I like ketchup.”

“I like the wee green bits.”

At the end of the lesson we voted on which was our favourite and made a human bar graph. The least favourite was guacamole (which is my favourite, it’s so yummy!) and the one with the most votes was sour cream and chives.

Unfortunately we were so busy trying our dips that I forgot to take any photos. However, here are some of the things you said about the different dips:

“This one is yummy!”

“I tried it even though it looked weird.”

“I liked that one but I wasn’t sure before!”

“It’s nice, it makes your tongue go all burny.”

“I liked it cause it smells nice.”

“I got it without any green bits!”

“Sour cream is my favourite! I want to use all my breadsticks for it.”

“My tummy is all happy.”

“I liked the fancy tomato sauce.”

At the end of the lesson we voted on which was our favourite. Miss Mackay is going to use that information in class to create a graph. The least favourite was guacamole (which is my favourite, it’s so yummy!) and the one with the most votes was salsa.

I hope you enjoyed telling everyone at home about all the delicious dips you tried today and will give them another try if you get the chance. Next week we will be trying out different kinds of dippers and seeing if we can describe them.

P2/1 Hour of Code

hourofcode_logo_rgbWe live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever area of work you decide to go into as adults, your ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.

That’s why our school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 5-11). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code.

Today, P2/1 continued their coding lessons using ScratchJr. We focused on adding sounds and movements to different sprites. ScratchJr is great fun! Well done on completing your Hour of Code!

Here are lots of coding tutorials you can try out at home.

House Christmas Art Day

Well done to all of the houses for working so hard today during the Christmas Art Day! It was wonderful to see everyone helping each other to create amazing individual art pieces and contributing to the big house displays.

I am sure all the visitors will enjoy looking at them tomorrow at the Christmas Fair.

Here are photos of the finished displays. They each feature a Paisley landmark to support the bid for Paisley City of Culture in 2021.

P6P – Finished Phone Cases!

P6P have finished their felt phone cases at long last! It has been a long process but I’m sure you’ll agree it has been worth the effort.

The design and creating process was as follows:

  • evaluating existing products
  • identify areas for improvement
  • create individual design criteria
  • take accurate measurements of their phone
  • create annotated designs
  • create a paper template
  • use the paper template to cut felt
  • use running and/or back stitch to decorate the felt
  • use pom-poms/felt shapes/pen/sequins/beads/buttons to decorate the felt
  • make a closing latch with fixings (like Velcro) to close the case
  • use the overlocker to sew the sides of the case together

After completing any last minute touches today, the class evaluated their finished product. They thought about WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If).

Some of the project has been quite tricky, however, I have been very impressed with how hard you have worked and the effort put in.

Here are some photos of P6P modelling their funky felt phone cases.

Explain Everything

img_7446
Today at the Digital Leaders meeting, we learned how to use the Explain Everything app. This is a great app that turns the iPad into a mini interactive whiteboard. We can explore ideas and share our learning by animating, recording and annotating slides.

In our next session, we will make a plan of how to teach what we have learned to a class of our peers. This will allow them to use the iPads in different areas of learning in class

Stop Motion Animation Masterclass

Here are some photos of the P5-7 members of the stop motion animation masterclass. We learned how to use the iMotion app to take still photos and run them together to make a short animation.  We had to be very careful to move our “characters” a tiny amount each time, keep the iPad steady and try to not get our hands in the photo! Next week we will be editing the animations and adding sound effects.

I was very impressed with the hard work and creativity shown by this group. Well done to you all on listening to the instructions on how to make your animation and then working together really well. I can’t wait to see the finished movies next week.
