Childminder Pre Registration Training
There is a shortage of childcare provision in most rural areas of Perth & Kinross and in some parts of Perth City. Childminders are the ideal type of service to fulfil demand, particularly to provide before and after school care for children attending smaller primary schools.
The Council’s Childcare Strategy Team organises childminder Pre-Registration Training courses for anyone who might be interested in becoming a childminder. Previous experience of working with children is not required.
For details of current courses or for information on childcare options in the local area, phone the Childcare and Family Information Service on 01738 472350 or e-mail childcare@pkc.gov.uk. Full details are also available on www.pkc.gov.uk/families or www.scottishfamilies.gov.uk

Career Opportunities for students within National Grid
We at National Grid have a range of exciting and challenging opportunities for capable and talented people across the whole of the UK. We’re pleased to confirm that we have vacancies in your area!
We want individuals to understand that University is not the only route to a challenging and exciting career and we are there to support and fund their future development. Investing in local communities is something that we are passionate about and recruiting people from local areas is just one small step in the right direction.
Please see below for a brief overview of the programmes:
Advanced Apprenticeship
The National Grid Advanced Apprenticeship is an award winning programme which mixes both college studies and on the job training with a paid starting salary of £14,950. After successful completion of the programme the Advanced Apprentices not only will hold an industry recognised qualification but will have gained valuable experience to prepare them for their future career within National Grid.
The minimum entry requirement for this programme is 5 GCSEs (grade C or above) which must include Maths and English Language. We can also accept qualifications equivalent to this.
Engineer Training Programme
This programme is a great alternative to University as students will study towards a fully funded Foundation degree at the same time as gaining valuable on the job training. Not only will they avoid the cost of University, they will earn while they learn with a starting salary of £23,500 and take up a permanent role on completion of the programme.
The minimum entry requirement for this programme is 2 A2 / A levels grade C or above – one of which must be in Maths, Physics or Engineering. We can also accept qualifications equivalent to this.
Some of the benefits of our programmes also include:
- Competitive salary
- 25 days annual leave and statutory holidays
- Full board and cost covered when working away from home
- Company vehicle
- Pension

Business Studies mural
A huge thank you goes to Advanced Higher Art & Design pupil Heather Stewart (S6) for her design and contribution to the developing Business mural on the stairwell at BHS. There have been many positive comments from both staff and pupils as the design has developed and it plans to keep on going!
The mural was inspired by last year’s IDL project between Art, HE, Business and Science where S1 pupils took inspiration from British illustrator Jon Burgerman. A team of eager S2 pupils have been busy adding to the mural during junior Art club sessions on Thursday lunchtimes and we are looking for more input. The hope is that it will grow and grow as more pupils become involved. If you’re interested, ask your Art teacher.
Mr O’Hara PT of Business is delighted commenting ..“As a department, we are working very hard to re-energise and modernise Business and IT: the mural really symbolises this. We are very grateful to Heather Stewart and the S2 girls who have given up their time to create such an eye-catching mural which highlights the direction our department is moving in.”
