Onatti Theatre event

On Tuesday 17 Feb, S1/2 pupils watched a play in German by the Onatti Theatre company.

Meine Neue Schwester

Katarina is a happy teenager. She lives with her mum.  It’s been a long time since her dad left but finally her mum has found a new partner called Gunter. He has a daughter, her name is Sonja and she’s the same age as Katarina.

Secretly Katarina has always wanted a sister; someone to borrow clothes from, someone to talk to about boys!  Katarina’s mum tells her that Sonja will be visiting and staying overnight. What will she be like?  Will they like the same things?

The apprehension is unbearable for Katarina as any moment her bedroom door will slowly open revealing her potential step-sister.  This could be the start of a great friendship or a horrendous nightmare!

Civil Service apprenticeships

A new apprenticeship scheme which is a brilliant new way for young, talented people to begin a rewarding career in the Civil Service.

This is a great alternative to full time education. Apprentices will work towards Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications, and there’s the option of doing Level 2 Maths and English for those who need it.

We’re looking for people who are comfortable with technology, have good customer service skills, are flexible and happy to learn on the job.

Departments have committed to signing up at least 300 apprentices this year which I think shows just how keen we are to encourage young people to choose the Civil Service as their preferred career. People currently in or who’ve previously worked in the Civil Service can apply, too. This interactive map shows where the vacancies are.

The scheme will take people 12 to 18 months to complete and, if the apprentices are successful, it may lead to a permanent job.

This influx of fresh talent into operational delivery is an exciting step in putting our profession in the best possible position to deliver the 21st century services UK citizens demand. Ours is a great profession to work in and we need the very best people, people who are able to surpass our customers’ expectations and give them excellent value.

Please encourage any young people you know to apply for these exciting opportunities.
