Archeological Trip

On Wednesday 25th June Mrs Haggart, Mrs Pieroni, Mrs McTavish and 14 pupils went to an archeological dig site at Glenshee.

When we arrived we were escorted to the site by Barbara and Sarah from the Heritage Trust.  We saw 2 small dig sites and a big dig site  which used to be a long house.

We started off by having a look at the different bumps in the landscape and had a chat about what they might be.  Then we had a look at the longhouse site and about how they dig up artifacts.

Then we stopped for a break before getting split into 3 groups.  We went with different people to talk about the different sites.  At the first station we had a go at using a metal detector and managed to find various objects such aws coins, spoons and lead musket balls!  At the next station we had a look at another dig site which was being recorded.  At our final station we got to have a go at excavating with trowels, we cleared away the earth and found some charcoal.

After lunch we had a short hike up a hill to what looked like an old village.  We had to have a look at them all and try to find where the entrances to the houses were.  We talked about the site then used paper and pastels to draw what we thougt they might have looked like.

Finally, what better way to end the day than with a group photo!
