Wheelbarrows Brighten up Roadsides of Papay as the Wheelbarrow Competition Arrives
The roadsides of Papay were a little brighter this week as the Papay wheelbarrow competition wheeled into town. The competition which was organized by Papay school in the last week of term had twenty entries from across the island. There were loads of great entries that were very unique ranging from a rocket launch to fairies.
On Tuesday afternoon the secret judging panel toured around Papay to see all the wheelbarrows and made decisions for who the winners were. The judging panel were partial to songs and dinosaurs and the winners were:
Tim Dodman-Hundland-Godzilla
Gillian Jamieson- Aalsker- Clockwork Orange
North Via – Tinkerbell and the secrets of the wings
Clestrain/School- Jurassic Park
On Wednesday 23rd of June we went on a cycle round the wheelbarrows. The ones we thought deserved a special mention were: Sound of Music at Cott, Godzilla at Hundland and South Rendall’s ‘Sink and Welly Boot’ barrow. We would also like to commend, North Ronaldsay School who entered three wheelbarrows from a distance.
Thank you to all the people that participated in the competition, we loved all of the different barrows. We thank the judges as well, for spending a sunny afternoon judging.
