Firth School and the school staff and pupils have been working towards developing the outside space to create a more stimulating and inclusive learning environment for everyone in the community.  As a result of a proposal by FoFS, we have been chosen by the CO-OP in Dounby to be one of the community initiatives they would like to support.

Firth Primary School is situated in a beautiful location and would hugely benefit from all-weather outdoor learning spaces to take advantage of the unique setting all year round.

The development of the area could have the potential to benefit a wide range of people in the community, providing a space for all ages to observe the surrounding natural area and wildlife from the safety and accessibility of a sheltered spot. 

The experience of visiting this location would also give opportunity for wider community learning with the provision of information boards and areas for primary pupils to share their work and develop an appreciation of the world they live in.

Our initial step would be to create the outdoor classroom.

Within this space we would hope to get advice from people with expertise on the local environment, such as the RSPB, who would help the pupils with information boards and displays. 

Support would also be appreciated for ideas for what to do with hedgehog homes, bird houses and feeders and what we can plant to attract wildlife.

We would then begin to create the other spaces which would complement the classroom and slopes and sheltered areas of the surrounding landscape, providing exciting new opportunities for whole community learning experiences.

We would like to thank FoFS and the CO-OP for taking this idea forward, and hopefully we will begin to get different ideas and advise from people who would like to get involved.
