Fairtrade Fortnight and the Pancake breakfast

A huge welldone to the boys and girls at Woodlands Primary School.  They have helped raise an amazing £336.33 for our Fairtrade fortnight.  The boys and girls(and Mr McMullan!) organised a tuck shop, Fairtrade raffle and pancake breakfast to help raise awareness and give farmers a fair deal.

Responsible: Article 36 – The right to protection from exploitation.

Heartstart

All pupils from primary 1-7 are learning simple life saving skills to help save lives.  Each stage is learning a skill appropriate to their age and will have to demonstrate that they are responsible to deal with an emergency.

 

Responsible: Article – 28 All children have the right to an education, encouraging us to be the best we can be.

Woodlands to West Africa Walking Challenge

Woodlands Primary School started their Woodlands to West Africa Walking Challenge.  Our goal is to cover the distance from our School to the capital of Sierra Leone, Freetown.  We are raising awareness of the problems and issues children face in that country. Lets start walking!

Active: Article – 2 All children have rights. No matter what their parents do, what language they speak, their culture, their personal circumstance, where they live, if they are disabled or whether they are rich or poor.

Pupil Action Group Assembly

The Pupil Action Group Assembly Focused on our upcoming initiatives. The boys and girls will learn skills linked to Heartstart. Learning emergency lifesaving skills. In February, the School will participate in a walking challenge. We will try and cover the distance from Woodlands Primary School to the city of Freetown in Sierra Leone, West Africa.

Active: Article 12 –  Children have the right to an opinion and for adults to listen to them.

Woodlands Choir

Woodlands Primary school choir provided festive cheer for shoppers at Princes’ Square Shopping Centre.  The children helped shoppers get into the Christmas spirit and raised money for the charity Quarriers.

Responsible: Article – 23  Everyone has the right to have special care to live a full life.

Children in Need

Whole school event. Starting with an assembly about the importance of Children in Need.  Children then engaged in various activities throughout the day, exploring the importance and impact the charity has. We raised a fantastic £250.

Active: Article 1 Everyone under the age of 18 has rights.

Remembrance Day

Primary 6/7 presented an assembly on Remembrance Day. Explaining the importance of remembering and appreciating the brave men and women who sacrificed so much to ensure people enjoy the rights and freedoms they have today.

Respected: Article 4 Governments have a responsibility to protect people’s rights.

Woodlands Tots

Woodlands Primary school became the home of the toddler group Woodlands Tots. This group will engage parents and families with School and nursery life and help mothers find support in the community.

Nurtured: Article 15 A group established by volunteers to bring new mums and dads together and to enable them to get to share experiences get to know the school and school staff.
