Today we looked at Article 15 (freedom of association) We learned that every child has the right to meet with other children and to join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights. We considered what being part of a group could do for us and what might be expected to form a successful group.
We looked at the school groups we have available and what being a member of them would involve.
At todays assembly we spoke about the role education has in developing children’s talents.
Schools must help develop a child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. We also considered the importance is showing/developing respect for human rights, as well as respect for parents/carers, the environment and other cultures.
At todays assembly we looked at article 28 – A child’s right to education.
Today we learned that all children across the world have the right to access primary education for free, and secondary education must be available to every child.
We also learned that the quality of the education that is received must be high and that just being in a school is not enough.
This week’s assembly focussed on the role Governments play in ensuring children know their rights and that adults have to do their part to make sure children’s rights are protected and known.
Article 41 – Knowledge of RIghts. Governments must actively work to make sure children and adults know about the Convention.
Our first assembly of the new session back was fantastic. We sang songs, spoke about the changes in the school and started our Rights program through discussing Article 1 .
Article 1 -Everyone under the age of 18 has all the rights in the convention. (Anyone under the age of 18 is a Child)
Today the house captains got together and had a meeting about the year ahead. They discussed their ideas for assemblies, initiatives and designed shields for their houses.
Today at assembly we looked at the final design for the Woodlands Muga pitch. We looked at what we liked and asked questions about it.
Article 3 – All adults should do what is best for you. When
adults make decisions, they should think about
how their decisions will affect children.
Article 12 – You have the right to give your opinion, and for
adults to listen and take it seriously.
Article 24 – You have the right to the best health care possible, safe water to drink, nutritious food, a clean and safe environment, and information to help you stay well.
At today’s assembly we looked at the impact of child labour and discussed why the 12th June is an important day – the World Day Against Child Labour. We learned that they are 160 million children worldwide who are engaged in work which is harmful for their development and often means they can’t access their rights to be safe, healthy and have an education.
Article 32 (child labour): Governments must protect children from economic exploitation and work that is dangerous or might harm their health, development or education. Governments must set a minimum age for children to work and ensure that work conditions are safe and appropriate.
Today we examined article 15. We explored why it’s important and debated how this right can help us make friends and find people that like the same things as us.

Today at assembly we talked about the benefits of play and the role of play in a young persons life. We looked at fun sports from across the world and how UNICEF uses football to raise money and awareness for children across the world.
