We are encouraging people to try and change at least 1 ingredient in their baking recipes to Fairtrade and have included some recipe ideas below.

Why not try these recipes using as many Fairtrade ingredients as possible:

Santa’s Cookies (from atypicalenglishhome.com)

Ingredients

  • 200g chocolate
  • 165g self-raising flour
  • 110g soft brown sugar
  • 125g butter
  • 1tbsp golden syrup
  • 1tsp vanilla essence

Method

  1. Chop the chocolate into chunks and add to a big bowl.
  2. Put the flour and sugar into the bowl and thoroughly combine the mix with butter and golden syrup.
  3. Once you are happy with your dough, roll it out until it is about 0.5cm thick and used festive cutters to cut out shapes.
  4. The cookies then need to be baked in a preheated oven at 180C for 10 to 14 minutes.

Banana Loaf (from BBC Good Food)

Ingredients

  • 140g butter, softened, plus extra for the tin
  • 140g caster sugar
  • 2 large egg, beaten
  • 140g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 very ripe banana, mashed

Method

  1. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4.
  2. Butter a 2lb loaf tin and line the base and sides with baking parchment.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Slowly add the eggs with a little flour.
  5. Fold in the remaining flour, baking powder and bananas.
  6. Pour into the tin and bake for about 30 mins until a skewer comes out clean.
  7. Cool in the tin for 10 mins, then remove to a wire rack.
