What have we been doing this week?

This week Primary 7a have begun to explore space and the solar system.

We have been learning about the size and scale of planets in our solar system. We made  models to demonstrate this.

We have begun to research all of the different planets to find out about their features and properties.

We have learning about banking and credit and debit cards.

Learning

Primary 7a have been focusing on money this week in particular exploring profit and loss. This linked in very nicely to our enterprise event and allowed pupils to engage in real life learning.

Awards

The primary 7a Dojo winner this week is Emma McMurray.

Our Four Capacities certificate this week  was awarded to Sonya MacLeod for being a Successful Learner.

Congratulations to both pupils for setting a great example and working consistently hard.

World War 2 Showcase

Preparations are well under way for next weeks showcase. We have been working very hard in our groups to prepare all the different aspects that will make up the event.

Thank you to everyone who returned their invitation responses quickly, this has helped us with our organisation.

We look forward to seeing you next week.

Erica McNutt who received this weeks Four Capacities Award for being a Confident Individual.

Well done and keep up the good work.

High School Visit

This week we made our first visit to Cumbernauld Academy as part of our transition programme.

We were split into groups with pupils from Carbrain Primary and had the opportunity to experience three different subjects. We also got a feel for the size of the school and how busy it is, especially when moving from class to class. Fortunately we had two guides to help us to find our way.

Here are some pupil experiences:

“When we were walking up the stairs we were getting budged by the older pupils moving around to classes, it was kind of strange being the youngest in the school.” Craig

“At High School we were learning about Geography and the Global Goals.  The government want to achieve these Global Goals by 2030. It was very interesting.”  Cerys

“Science was my favourite subject. I enjoyed getting a bunsen burner and turning the collar to make different kinds of flames. There was a roaring flame (600 degrees) and the safety flame (60 degrees). The roaring flame was almost invisible and the safety flame was clearly visible and looked so cool.” Christopher

” In maths we were given some problem solving, we were using number codes to make roof shapes, it was a bit tricky. ” Adam

“French was my favourite subject, we were learning about different places in France, at the end of the lesson we had a quiz, it was interesting.” Abby

“Design and technology was fun, we got use all the different tools to make a boat out of wood, we will finish this on our next visit.” Sonya

“In English we learned about alliteration, similes and personification , I liked it. Erica

“I really liked using the trampolines in P.E. , we were learning to keep our balance and make shapes in the air. It was a really fun experience to have.” Max

“Pupils took part in all of the lessons very enthusiastically, I was very proud of everyones attitude and behaviour.” Mrs Patrick
