R.M.E

During R.M.E in class, our learning has been based on Sectarianism. Sectarianism is really fights and or arguments caused by religion. It is usually linked with Celtic and Rangers, Catholics and Protestants even though they share the common belief of Christianity.

-Here is a little Definition- Sectarianism

“Narrow minded beliefs that lead to prejudice, discrimination, malice and ill will towards members or presumed members of a religious denomination” -Nil By Mouth.                             By Max Hunter!

This weeks learning

We have had a focus on literacy and reading this week to correspond with World Book Day. Along with this we have still managed to work hard in other subjects. In maths we have been learning about symmetry and have tackled drawing some very tricky symmetrical shapes.

In our Biodiversity topic we have been investigating the way in which humans make a negative impact on our planet and have begun to explore the consequences of these actions. All pupils have been asked to complete the WWF footprint calculator at home and return their results.

In art we have used a peer assessment model to improve our drawings in steps, with good results.

Our R.M.E. Continues to focus on sectarianism and discrimination using Divided City as a resource. Pupils are participating in the workshops enthusiastically and finding the subject very interesting.

In P.E. We have been learning about the elements of dance by deconstructing a dance we have learned and re shuffling the parts to create our own versions. We have had a go 70’s style and are using 70′ tunes, this is to link with our schools 40th anniversary.

World Book Day

This week we have explored a variety of books; pupils have started to read their new class novels. We explored writing in a journal style using Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. We explored descriptive writing using Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone by J.K. Rowling. We also enjoyed some pages from Mr Stink by David Walliams.

This week in a nutshell

Primary 7 have been learning to calculate time durations and to use and create a timetable, useful skills for high school.

We completed fun literacy activities finish off or novel studies, new novels will be issued next week. We have been exploring spelling strategies to improve our skills. In writing our focus has been on information texts. We also took inspiration from this weeks author visit to create our own stories.

We are continuing to explore discrimination and sectarianism in R.M.E. Using the Divided City pack workshops.

In art we are continuing to develop our detailed drawing skills and have started to focus on wildlife.

In IDL we are exploring Biodiversity and the impact that we as humans are having on the Biomes of the world. We are part of the web of life and one of the main causes of it’s destruction. We will be considering our own carbon footprints and would appreciate your help in sharing information with your child.

Author visit

After Stuart Reid’s visit we were inspired to write our own stories.

I thought Stuart Reid has a big imagination and knows what the children want when they read a book and also is one of the people with the biggest sense of humour I have ever met. -Max Hunter!!

Problem solving in P.E.

We enjoyed some outdoor problem solving in P. E.

We were doing the assault  course with pallets of water on a tennis racket  who ever had the most water in the jugs  won the activity. It was fun.Caydn Quinn

We had to work as a team trying to keep the most water in the jug to measure at he end,and had to go in chains and not let go from each other.  I though it was really challenging  and really fun .Charlotte Mair

We went outside and we did an assault course ,we had to get a tennis racket and a paint tub filled with water and at the outdoor play area we got the tennis racket and water and we had to not drop any water out of the paint tub and we done it 3 or 4 times and it was so fun .Emma McMurray.
