Mary’s Meals

Today at Assembly, Robert Carty from Mary’s Meals, was presented with a cheque for £551.36 from St Patrick’s, which was the money raised from P5’s Fairtrade tuck shop, P6’s Christmas Enterprise and Raffle sales at the Nativity Concerts. This was a fantastic effort and Mr Carty was very grateful to receive such a large amount for  this great cause. He also spoke to the children about the Back Pack Project which we are undertaking.

We invited along Motherwell Times so look out for the story in the press.

I would like to add a special mention to a very caring pupil in P6 –  Anna MacDonald who recently raised £500 herself for the Little Princess Trust Charity by having her long hair cut. Well done Anna and I think your new hair cut is lovely.

P6 – Boast About the Toast!

The primary 6 children made toast with jam, butter and banana on Friday to help raise money for the DreamMaker Foundation. They also sold orange juice and blackcurrant juice to each class wishing to purchase a drink alongside their toast. This helped them raise a total of £114.50. This has been added to the school’s running total.

All the children in p6 felt very proud of themselves and were pleased to help such a wonderful charity. 🙂

Mary’s Meals

Today at Assembly two representatives from the Children’s Council from P7 spoke about the Mary’s Meals Back Pack initiative which P6 and P7 are leading, as part of the Pope Francis Faith Awards.

Pupils were shown an example of a back pack and told about the items to put in it. Mrs Carroll will distribute information leaflets to all classes next week and this initiative will run until the end of April, so you have plenty of time to participate.

This was a very successful initiative a few years ago at St Patrick’s with 98 back packs being sent to support children in Malawi. I am sure that everyone will support this very worthwhile venture.

Thank you to everyone who has bought stars, badges, pencils and toast this week to help our “Dream Maker” Lenten Charity. I will post our total this week on Monday.

Next week there will be hot dogs on sale next Friday (P7 organising) Raffle tickets costing 20p a ticket will be on sale from Monday. The draw will be made on 28th March at the School Focus disco. Tickets will also be on sale at Parent’s Evening on Tuesday.

First Reconciliation

Pupils from Primary 3 celebrated their First Reconciliation at St John Bosco Church last night. It was a beautiful service and the children were a credit to their teachers and school. Thank you to Mrs McMonagle for  this lovely photo.

Health Week in P7

Primary 7 have had a wonderful week in school.  They have participated in a variety of activities for Health Week.  On Monday they had a football workshop with Michael.  They all showed fantastic skill.  They also had the opportunity to recap on how to brush their teeth properly and they learned about the amount of sugar that is in some sweets and drinks.  On Tuesday the children got to sample Tae kwon do.  They had great fun trying to kick high. The SSPCA visited on Wednesday.  Sarah told them all about her work and they learned all about becoming a responsible pet owner.  They had great fun playing games.  Thursday was also a busy day.  Barbara from Tesco came along to our school and the children got to taste some fruit, smell some spices and play games.  The Sports Talent Display was a lovely way to finish off our week.

St. Patrick’s Day in St. Patrick’s

St. Patrick’s Primary School in New Stevenston had two very special visitors to their school today.  Mr and Mrs Leprechaun decided to pop in to meet the Primary 1’s and 2’s as they celebrated the feast day of their Patron Saint.  They danced with Primary 1 and had their photos taken with Primary 2.  They said St. Patrick’s in New Stevenston is the BEST school they have ever visited!

Health Week P6

Primary 6 learned lots about being responsible animal citizens today when they worked with Mr Robertson from the SPCA. They participated in a quiz and found out some interesting facts about how to care for animals they may come across in their local community.

They also discussed ways to look after pets and had lots of fun despite no real animals taking part. 🙂

Yesterday the children worked with Mrs Tweedy and Carla. They sampled some Spanish food and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They have worked with Carla throughout this term and will miss her greatly now she has finished her visits to St Patrick’s. P6 and all the staff wish her well with her continued studies.

P6 also got active yesterday afternoon when they participated in a Taekwon-Do session in the Gym Hall. The children focused on their breathing, coordination and flexibility. All children were really happy and were thrilled when they received a leaflet telling them all about where and when Taekwon –Do lessons are taking place. The children really enjoyed the fun martial arts training they received today.

Well done P6! You are all working hard, having fun and keeping fit. 🙂
