New Term

Morning everyone,

I hope you have had lots of fun during your Easter holidays. Although it was different for most of us I hope you managed to get out for your daily walks/bike rides and have fun at home playing.

This is a strange way to begin a new term but I’m hoping we can still manage to learn lots of new things.

Today I’m only going to set one task for your children so that they are not overwhelmed on the first day back.

Literacy Work

Ask if your child can remember what a phoneme is. They should be able to tell you that it is when we take two sounds and put them together to make a new sound.

Ask which ones they can remember.

Hopefully you’ll get s+h is sh, c+h is ch, t+h is th, n+g is ng,e+e is ee and o+o is oo.

This week we are going to put c and k together to make the ck sound. This sound wiil mostly be heard in the middle of words or at the end of words. Curly c always comes before kicking k.

Can you look through a book and find any ck words?    Write them down.

Can you use your letter tiles to make ck words?     (You will have to write ck on a sheet of paper and cut it out for a ck tile)

Here are some ck words to get your child to make… sick, sack, back, flick, sock, block, flock, kicking, muck and back.

To finish off you can go online and find the ck episode on alphablocks.

Tomorrow I will post this weeks new spelling words and a new number challenge.

Remember just a little each day and lots of repetition and play.

Mrs McCargo
