A nasty surprise…

Primary 1 finally had to throw our germy bread out today. Last week, there were some little bits of mould spreading around the slices, but when we came in today it was much worse. The children were disgusted and loved getting a closer look at all the slices. We have now learned a very important lesson about washing our hands to stop the spread of germs!

Can you guess which groups DID wash their hands before touching the bread?

Science Club

This week our scientists made ice cream with milkshakes. We put milkshake in two separate bags and closed them. We put one milkshake bag in a large bag with ice and the other milkshake bag in a larger bag with ice and salt. After shaking these bags for 15 minutes we discovered that only one of the milkshake bags had frozen. The bag with the ice and salt had turned the milkshake into ice cream. This is because the salt reduces the temperature of the ice.

We had fun shaking the bags but enjoyed eating the ice cream more!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!!

Euroquiz

Today a group of pupils from primary 6 competed in the Euroquiz competition ( a general knowledge quiz based on geography, history, art, culture, sport and traditions in Europe). Unfortunately we did not make it to the final, however, the participation and representation of the school alone is enough to be proud of. I am extremely proud of the dedication by each team member who put in so much effort in preparation and during the quiz. Well done quizzers👍🏻

Germs!

Primary 1 have been learning all about germs and how they can make us sick. We tried a fun experiment where we put ‘germs’ (glitter) on our hands and did some work around the class. The germs spread so quickly and got EVERYWHERE! We had to learn how to wash our hands properly to get rid of them.

Our next step was to see what happens when germs get onto our food. We deliberately didn’t wash our hands and then touched a slice of bread. After a few days, we’ve already noticed the bread starting to look mouldy as the germs are growing. We now know that this is how we get sick from germs and we are becoming professional hand washers!

Primary 6 Chinese New Year Assembly

Primary 6 performed their assembly today on Chinese New Year. The first performance was for the parents/grandparents/guardians who received an added extra of some Chinese food – the chow mein freshly cooked by the children before their assembly. It was a pleasure to see so much support for our pupils.

It was showtime again in the afternoon when primary 6 performed their assembly for the second and final time in front of the whole school. Lots of hard work from everyone resulted in an enjoyable day for all.
