Progression Through Technical
S1 & S2: Pupils are offered a broad course from S1 to S2 where they will experience projects within the individual specialist areas of Graphic communication, Practical Woodwork, Practical Metalwork and Design and Manufacture. This allows them to build confidence in all these areas and understand what each subject entails for their subject choices going into S3.
All of the lessons taught in S1 and S2 are concordant with the Curriculum for Excellence initiative, enabling pupils to gain a vast breadth of knowledge and understanding from their experience in the Technical department, which will equip them with the skills to progress into one or more of our subject areas.
S3 & S4: In S3 students have the opportunity to continue one or more of our subjects in more depth, leading into National 4 and then National 5 courses in S4.
S5 & S6: National 5 is the foundation to Higher and Advanced Higher. Graphic Communication or Design and Manufacture students who have gained N5 have the opportunity to progress into these levels in S5 or S6. Pupils who have gained a N5 in Practical Woodwork or Design and Manufacture can take Practical Metalwork in S5 or S6.
In discussion with teachers, some students may have the opportunity return to the department in S5/6 without any National 5 Technical qualifications to crash N5 of Higher in Graphic Communication or Design and Manufacture. However their performance in other subjects in S4 may influence the decision on wither this would be a suitable course for the individual pupil.
As a department we are committed to providing additional learning experiences and opportunities which give our young people an experience of real world industries. Click the link to see some of our Extra Curricular Design and Technology Experiences.
