Our Space
We have two fully equipped kitchens in the department as well as two class rooms which provides space for fabric work. The Department is open plan so can be a busy environment.

What is Food and Consumer Studies
We are part of the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, The Food and Consumer Studies Department work with young people in developing skills for work and home and promote health and fitness in all our young people. Our aim is to provide all young people with positive career prospects and the tools to leave school and lead a healthy and prosperous life and career.
The Health and Wellbeing of the Scottish population is a priority for the Scottish government and in following Curriculum for Excellence in Health and Wellbeing for all year groups we ensure they grow in knowledge in this important area.
Broad General Education
Detailed information on different coursework can be found in the BGE section of the Food and Consumer page please see above. Pupils follow Curriculum for Excellence in Technologies and also Health and Wellbeing. Within Technologies they will develop their creative skills in Textile Technology and also in Food Technology. In Health and Wellbeing they will investigate how food and health have an effect on their wellbeing. Pupils will also investigate food global issues and how they can work to prevent damage to the environment.
National and Higher Qualifications
Pupils are provided with the opportunity of studying at National 4, National 5, and Higher level in Health and Food Technology. Please click the link above to access more information.

Events
We often host events in the department from Pancake Tuesday to Street food competitions, Bistro lunches. We also go on trips to the Royal Highland show each year allowing pupils to explore and taste food as well as learn more about farm to fork.
Careers
The Food & Drink Industry in Scotland is a major contributor to the Scottish Economy, and offers young people a wide range of job opportunities. Figures from the Scottish government show that 1 in 5 people working in manufacturing work in the Food & Drink Industry. As a department we work with our pupils to provide career opportunities in this prosperous area.
